Default spare behind the seats to get rid of the spare tire carrier.

Just read Joe79vette's thread about spare tires from other Chevys, great donut spare info.
https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...r-chevy-s.html
Same subject different twist.

Around here I've been stranded twice by AAA not showing up at all. Not very pleasant. once was a flat, second was a bolt snapped off that held on the alternator which lead to overheating with no water pump. Since AAA is so untrustworthy I have to carry a spare but I was wanting to put it behind the seat and was looking for this same info you guys have provided on donuts. Thank you very much for substitute donut spare info but the bid question I want answered no is this.

Has anyone put a donut behind the seats so they can get rid of the carrier. The carrier has a little weight to it to get rid of, but I just detailled my rear end and want ot show it off a little. ( Now that is a fun sentence to write)

nice new calipers and painted up sway bar

all brand new stainless hoses, braided line and stainlees E brake parts

Bolting it all together. Now isnt that sexy??!!

Who would want a big ugly tire carrier blocking that view

Nice rear end...awkward...how 'bout them Bears!?!

OK, secure in my manhood again...but seriously, I drive my 2004 Z06 without a spare tire all the time. She's even been from AL to Canada and back. The Zs have a factory can of fix a flat and an air compressor in the trunk. Why not store a can of fix a flat in the rear storage compartment and be done with it.

My 82 has her original spare in the tub...I've seen it once in 20+ years. If things ever go south beyond that call 1-800 come get me. I don't use AAA but my insurance has towing, like most offer.

RR, I cannot add to the spare behind the seat topic. I do want to say that you have done some fine work this winter! The 68 is looking good.

Thanks guys. The one time I got a flat, i was in the high speed lane. It was a fast leak, not a blowout. But by the time i felt the car pulling, and slowing down to get into the break down lane, the tire was I real bad shape, I dont think it was going to hold air. After sitting on the side of the highway for over an hour, I really dont like using AAA except as a last resort. I do have towing with my car insurance which I haven't tried. And cell service in the northeast is very poor and unreliable.

Thanks again for checking out my rear end. LOL

I sure wouldn't want a spare in the cabin with me. Lets face it. Tires stink. New rubber stinks.
You might have new seat covers, new carpet, new door panels, new car smell, only to be overwhelmed by rubber. Bad idea.

Down side....
If you have a blowout, now you'll have to store the dirty, shredded full size tire and wheel behind your seats which could be a real mess for your seat backs and carpet. Or maybe just abandon it on the road.
Your diff really does look great, but I'd leave the spare where GM intended.

Completely agree; this was the first thing I thought of.

Still think C2/3 cars look like they are missing something with the big hole left by a removed spare tire carrier.

Don't want people admiring my rear end out in public. Awkward!

After the comments on the smell, I figured I could put it in a large garbage bag, then I started to think of the blown out tire and that I would have to store that. Then Greg brought up the mess of that whole situation. Gues my dreams of people admiring my rear end are dashed...once again.

Thanks to everyone for all the input. I guess I'll have to start cleaning up the tub!!!

I removed my tub/spare so people can see easier in behind. Why have a tub that blocks the view? I also carry a can of Slime and a small 12V air compressor......... just in case.

Here is another thought, , ,, Many many new or newer vehicles are no longer manufactured with a spare tire, , ,, mainly for other reasons than showing off ones "rear", , , , Each persons reason for no spair will differ, , my C3 is spare-less,, and in the area I reside, i have no issues with service, i carry a bank card that most all service providers accept, and my insurance sends me a reimbursement for what they cover,, ,, ,, i understand not all areas of the world have great service for flat repair, or towing, this would be your biggest consideration, , , , That's how I deal with it, I keep my account full so any issues are covered, and I get to safe harbor, ( some use credit cards the same way, I keep mine for other emergencies ) ... I will say, when it's time for new tires, i will buy five, and return the spair to its rightful place,,,,,

Those new cars that dont come with a spare have created a whole new market niche of companies selling the spare with jack, look at www.modernspare.com as an example. Have a 2017 Buick and Ford as daily drivers and the first thing I did with both of them is got a spare and jack.

A spare is no use without a jack. I have a plug kit and inflator. I'm surprised that AAA let you down, but I haven't used them in 15 years. Roadside assistance is part of my insurance.

RR- WOW! I don't believe I have ever seen a vented disc brake rotor with the webs painted. My drilled/slotted rotors are clean and came with the "hat" part already painted. I have my calipers bright red, but I have some two part epoxy caliper paint left over and think I will slosh some into the webs and edge of the rotors. We'll then see exactly how heat resistant it really is.

Nice work on the detail back there, looking good.

What about those run-flat tires, good for 50 miles? Not cheap though.

Do they come in sizes for c3's?

my BMW came with runflats and no spare. I couldn't wait for them to wear out. you can feel a dime if you run over it. I replaced with regular hancook tires and rides 100 times better and I don't bend a rim every other week.
I did have to buy a matching rim and tire along with a small floor jack I keep strapped down in trunk with 2 ratchet straps. not much room in trunk now but worth it. also if you get a flat with runflats you have to get to a tire shop fast and hope they have your tire. many times the runflat tire is not repairable. when im traveling and I get a flat I want to be able to keep going. BMW says reason for runflats is because they don't want someone getting hit on side of road changing a flat. oh and at 300 dollars a tire ill pass.

100%
Something is missing if it's not there, and as 6369 is saying, there is a big hole without it, and I think it looks "wrong"

Just my 2 cents.
