Default 1976 Project C3 in SE Arizona

Hello! Thanks for having me on your forum! I am new to the Corvette world but have picked up a ton of good information from this forum. My 10 year old son and I recently traded our tired high mile family SUV for this 1976 Corvette. It is obviously a project car but you should see his eyes light up every time we go into the shop to start "working" on it. It makes the intimidating project we took on seem a little less daunting. I have learned more in the last 2 weeks about corvettes than I ever thought I would learn.

A little info about the car: The guy we got it from had done a little bit of work on it prior to knocking his girlfriend up and needing something a little more roomy. When we got it they had installed a new aluminum radiator, new hoses, electric headlight actuator motors, edelbrock performer intake maniforld, 4 barrel carburetor, hooker headers with side exhaust, and they had done some interior work. The interior is free of any rips or cracking and the carpet is in decent shape. Somewhere down the line someone pulled the stock 350 and put a 327 from a 1966 corvette in it. It has the standard TH350 transmission.

As apparent in the photo, it needs some (a lot) of sanding and paint prep. There are a few areas that will need some glass work as well. Mechanically it runs fine (not great but I drove it 2 hours to my house) but it needs new bushings, some steering work (pulls right), new shocks, springs, tires, etc.

We have no intention of fully restoring this car; we just want to clean it up, make it look and run nice, and have it as a fun father/son project. I'm excited to get him out there working with his hands! I'm looking forward to all that I can learn from guys who have been playing this game for years.

Thanks again!

Welcome to the forum. I think it's really cool that you and your son are enjoying the project together. My love of cars was a gift that came from spending time with my dad, working on my old car brings back a great deal of good memories. You guys go enjoy the journey.

Thanks! That is my plan, to keep him involved and interested. Luckily for me, he would rather spend time outside than in front of a TV anyways. We are quite excited for the journey. Hopefully the destination will be just as fun! ;-)

Welcome to the forum! Should be a great project for you and your son.

A 327 from an earlier year could be a very good motor for that car. Unless it needs a lot of work, that’s probably an upgrade

Thanks! The 327 is going to need a little work to make it run great but it does run so at least we have that going for us.
