Default Chassis stripped, repairs, sandblasted and ready for powder coated!

Had a hand full of repairs that needed immediate attention once we pulled the body of our 75 build off. Broken passenger side lower control arm mount that clearly someone cobbled back onto the chassis, rotted rear body mounts, and some needed repairs to the steering components mounting point on our chassis.

Before

we were comfortable with installing our newly purchased vansteel front and rear suspension it was the best idea to pull everything off the chassis and some of the big issues were very well hidden.

wouldve added more photos of what was fixed or fabricated but the website doesn’t like my phone.

Opinions vary on this but I have found the frames look stunning when powder coated using 35% to 55% black gloss. I did one in matte one time and though it looked nice it was very tough to keep wiped down and clean. Some shops call it semi-gloss; some don't offer a lot of variety; but nothing says professional to me as much as a beautifully restored frame upon which to build your car.

Very nicely done.

Best regards,

thanks everyone for the positive feedback!

@dave, I want to say it is just standard gloss black. Ended up getting a hell of a deal. Entire chassis and some misc. parts all blasted and powder coated for $300. Long story short, some guy ordered a big batch of gloss black, customer fell through on payment, and the painter wanted it off his shelf’s. So he gave us a hell of a deal we couldn’t pass up on.

We are extremely happy with the the quality of the vansteel kits. Couple things ended up missing during delivery as the box ripped open, but vansteel never questioned it, sent us the missing parts next day. Worth every penny. Also, opted in for the front strut mount bar after purchasing the majority of their kit. Wanted to add some rigidity to the front to help quiil breaking another lower control arm mount or breaking the frame.

Everything other than the engine was built by me. Fully built 750+ capable 4l60e that we went through Dana @ probuilt for internals and guidance, rear end I rebuilt about a year ago posi tuned with Eaton carbon clutches(so far they are holding up). May tear it back down and swap them out as there’s a lot of negative feedback on them.

Really nice welding. It is so nice to assemble a car without getting dirty. Keep us posted with pictures. Jerry

Just got the frame back from powder coat this morning. So far, pretty happy with how it came out and the turn around time was over a week ahead of schedule! Time to start assembling the goodies on it!

Very nice! Looking forward to the fun you will have putting together a rolling chassis. Have fun with it. David

thanks guys,

@david did find it is a gloss black but a certain percentage of primer in it. Put up against a tradition gloss black you can see somewhat of a difference, but just looking you’d never tell.

Good point on the left over powder. I used to work for a equipment manufacturer and they have a powder coat facility. Customers were always doing custom colors and if I recall correctly minimum custom powder order was 50 lbs. Most of the time more than half was left over. Powder colors use "RAL" numbers to determine colors. If there is no future use for the powder it went in the dumpster. Always ask if they have left over powder or if they have big run of the color you want you might get a deal. $300 for that frame was a great deal. Looks good.

that is great info to know, thanks for sharing. We just got lucky knowing little about the powder coating buisness. However, I’ll be asking about left over or bulk paint from now on. Usually shy away from powder coating or paint as everyone knows gets extremely expensive.

Doing some mock up of the new vansteel steering and suspension and routing new Brake lines. Still waiting on the hub and spindle assembly front/rear to be painted to finish mock up, then final assembly will happen. So far it’s pretty straight forward install!

Looking fantastic!

Also, I am extremely envious of you (and anyone) that has their own lift. Such a nice feature to have.

Thanks guys!, the lift has made work a night and day difference. Use to do it all on my back building cars with jackstands and the car sitting on blocks of wood. No more knee and back pain, lol

im really enjoying this build and seeing the hard work pay off, but if you want a wicked cool c3 with the vansteel setup, check out Danny Popp’s 1972 Corvette Stingray he runs in autocross. Entire car is beautiful and it goes like hell.
