Another Original Spare Tire
Okay . . . I know I'm not breaking any new ground here, but I just love discovering these things about my car.
I removed the spare carrier for easier access to my differential and snubber. I found the original spare tire intact and still holding air.
The carrier itself is in great shape also. Love this stuff!

Very cool!! Has the rubber hardened or is it still flexible. If you ever plan to use a spare I would put that away for show and get another tire to keep in there. Ike

Its like finding a 50 year old bottle of wine that is undrinkable!
My spare was original red stripe. Still had the little rubber spikes. Left it at the shop.
Did find original bright blue t-top covers in rear glass holder!! Unused.
Kept those.
Cool finding these things!!

Very cool. wish they would bring back the old script from some of these tires..esp goodyear and firestone.
The lack of or dorky huge stickers, well...not quite the same (no offense)

I would kill for something that looked like the Goodyear Polyglas letters on a modern tire that I had on my 66 GTO!

I have a bottle of 1971 red wine to go along with my original 1971 spare tire.

Not sure if I'm ready to trust reproduction tires though; especially if the car is anything more than a weekend driver or show car.

Would you please measure the diameter if you still can....on another post we are trying to find out what it actually is on the original F70-15 spare tire.
Thanks,

There are actually companies out there who reproduce retired tires. http://www.kelseytire.com/pages/preformancetires2.html

Take a gabillion pictures of it and throw it away...unless your car is a museum piece.
I did the same for the 82 CE and the 69 'vert, BOTH had tires that were never removed /put on the ground etc. Love seeing those little '****' tho!
Then I put a real tire in that position.
The thought of; A. The tire blowing up, shredding and taking out $10,000 worth of fiberglass and paint was nightmarish. B. Ditto the thought of abandoning the car to Zombies on the side of the road, while I walked to Bubba's tire and drooling emporium only to find that a 255/60/15 is not available...yikes!
Edit; I DIDN'T throw the 69 F-70-15 REDLINE away...couldn't bear that! The old Polyglas is playground food now!
Archaeology good! Antique SPARE tire=BAD!
