Default C3's Were Popularized by the Astronauts

I thought I would share this article from a magazine that I subscribe to. Sort of proud to be a hobbyist with its roots in our nation's brilliant space race!! Those guys were put on a national pedestal, but behind the scenes were certainly daredevil characters in the best American male tradition. Loved the article.
Hope you enjoy - and, freely comment, especially if you have memories of the era, and to pass along to other forum brethren / family/ friends.

Dave

Good Stuff Lakeside - Thanks for posting!
I'm especially proud of my '69, as she turns 50 next month!
In fact, based on her VIN, her birth date was 7/26/69, which would have put her somewhere on the factory floor in St. Louis while Apollo 11 (Neil and Buzz) were walking on the moon.
One of my earliest and most vivid memories was watching the lunar landing and first space walk, as a 7 year old child in my parents' den.

Well Hell...My '69 was and is driven by an utterly faceless, unknown rocket scientist....ME! Keeping up the side, don't you know.

Amusing article!

I love the scene in Apollo13 when Tom Hanks' 69 craps out because of vapor lock!

I spotted this gold C3 in January 2019 parked outside of a repair shop in Austin,Tx. I wish I had gotten more info, but I was told it was one of the “Astronaut Corvettes” from NASA. Thanks for posting the story, OP

James May did a video about these Corvettes on the Grand Tour. He got fairly choked up when driving Neil Armstong's car.
If you have Amazon Prime it's Season 3 Episode 9

Very nice! You can tell that his brain is overwhelmed between trying to process the present, vivid flashbacks to watching the moon landing as a lad, and trying to connect the "space" (no pun) & time that somehow led him to sitting there driving our national icon's own iconic car. Because of their extremely important intellectual and technological contributions to the Apollo space program our British and German (and, Australian, etc.) brethren deservedly share fully in the pride of the US space program. Wish I could have been riding shotgun with him, and then also pondering "how the hell did I get here" as he clearly is!!
Great video post, Backstop!
