The blower motor on my 1972 LS5 quit working! After some internet research, I located the blower relay on the side of the AC/heat plenum. After removing the wires, you could see that the bottom of the relay was covered with rust. Removing the relay and opening it up revealed a mess! No wonder it didn't work! The insides of the relay were gone-completely rusted! There was a pile of rust chips inside the relay enclosure!
My guess is that for years condensation from the AC return line has been dripping onto the "bottom" of the relay, (it is mounted with the contacts pointing up) and found it's way inside! Mother nature did the rest!
I am going to try to mount the new one with the contacts pointing down!
The attached pictures say it all! I will seal the new relay with a little silicone around the edges, and where the contacts go into the relay! If the new relay lasts another 47 years I will be a happy driver!
