Default ? 4 the day!!

To all C3 Gurus,
Is there any adjustment for inside the top of the steering box?.....I have a 78!!
Are there any requirements to check the level of lubricant?
TIA

Not really, there is a bolt that will let you see inside where you have the adjustment screw, but it takes grease and NOT oil.

Tx for the note DT,
When I look at the top of the box I see a slotted bolt with a nut under it and 3 bolts in the radius of the plate underneath both???
Do I have to remove the 3 bolts to get inside of the box or do I loosen loosen the nut are rotated the slotted bolt?

Don't take the 3 bolts out or mess with the slotted screw that adjusts MANY ***** that are on a worm gear that will tighten or loosten your steering box arm. The 3 bolts will allow you to look inside, but then you might mess up the gasket. I'm going to my shop now and if you don't get a better answer then I can respond very late tonight. There is a procedure in the manual that will explain taking out the slop in your steering box if you have it and want to adjust that slotted screw.

Thanks for the link to the other steering box adjustments. There was some good information there.

problem adjusting is the main steering shaft
is adjusted by the amount of force to turn.
needs to be off the drag link.

I rebuilt mine way back and found gm didn't put much grease in or where it was needed.
glad I took it off car and saved it from more wear.

All above is correct, but at the dealership we were able to adjust without any removal even though it may be in the manual. There is a certain feel (which is slight to this and the ***** inside are solid, it is just the cast that could be damaged. That's why there is a slot and not a nut on the adjustment screw. It would be hard to apply enough force to damage the box with a screw driver, but it only has to be slightly turned to feel the play reduction while rotating the out put shaft back & forth with your other hand to move the slop. ONLY very slight pressure with the screw driver and when you tighten the locking nut make sure the slot does not move! Then re-check the play again to make sure it feels the same.
