Default C3 dimmer switch differences (Column mount)

Aloha all,
. I'm slowly building up a C3. I'm in the process of wiring it up and noticed that my steering colum (tilt) does not have a dimmer switch mounted. I have the lever and connector bar in the colum, but no switch. What is the difference between the various years models? I see there is a few years to choose from early 70s, 78-80, etc.
I dont know the year of the colum, the year of the car dosen't matter as nothing matches on the car and I cant match it as I dont have one to begin with.
thanks for any inputs/photos.
Cheers,
Karp

If you are asking about the 68 mentioned in your profile, then the dimmer switch is on the floor to the left of the clutch ...so, yeah, as far as C3s the year matters a lot.

ON a 78 the dimmer switch is mounted down on the steering column and a lever connects the signal stalk to the switch. Pull back or push forward on the stalk operates the lights.

Thanks for any assistance,. Yes it's for the 68, but I think the only thing that's 68 is the frame. The body, judging by the corner lights, no chrome bumper and rear glass is more an 80-82.there is no spot in the floor for the foot operated switch.
here are a few pics, hopefully these are good enough to narrow down the year. Thanks for any inputs.

Driver side

Pass side

Colum connector, I still need to find/order other side as well.

There will be another switch along the top of the column next to the ignition switch. White plastic, and a small rod going into it from the top. That will be the high beam switch. Yours looks just like my ,78.

I have found out a little.
68 and early in 69 the dimmer switch extends through
the carpet as in earlier years. After that they squeezed that
foot petal in there

Are you sure the place for the foot operated switch is not there? It might be easier to put a foot operated switch in if you can.

Carriljc, I'll take a look for mounting holes again, yet I don't remember seeing anything that looks like the link pics in the floorboard. maybe I overlooked it?

Does anyone know if the column mounting screw size is the same as the ignition switch on the column? I can't get into it until Sunday/Monday night, thanks!

Once this C3 is all together and running, its going to be a bad momma jamma. So thank you for all the helpful comments

If you are sure it is a 78 dimmer switch it uses the same mounting hardware as the ignition switch.
Getting both the dimmer and ignition switches adjusted correctly is really important.
The turn/dimmer lever is mounted to a pivot bracket made out of pot metal.
If the dimmer switch is not correctly adjusted it can put extra stress on the metal pivot bracket and they do break.
Here are the mounting instructions you would receive with a NOS 7829781 GM switch.
A GM switch "Should" also come with the stud and nut shown in the photo below.

As stated above if you go with a floor switch and tie into your later dash harness...
A Buddy of mine has a 77 with a broken dimmer pivot bracket he just doesn't want to deal with so he fabricated a floor switch mount bracket and I built him this correct color coded harness with period correct connector housings.
The main dash harness F/M end connector already has the correct terminals, just unpin and install in new 3 cell housing.
Install new male housing and terminals on pigtail...
About $30.00 invested plus our time...
Here are the part numbers...

My April 1968 has the foot pedal under the carpet.
