Headlight shields for early ‘69

I was at a local cars & coffee yesterday, and there were a number of fellow C3 owners there with their cars. I asked about the shields, and showed them my car.
If it’s correct that the late ‘69 shields extend a little lower than the early ‘69 ones, the thought was to get the later shields…but also to check and see if they mount the same. If the whole point in Chevy making the change was to remove a hindrance in the headlamp operation, it seems reasonable to get the later design, because that’s the improved version.
I’m going to have my new seats and my refurbished seat belts installed next weekend, so I’m going to poke around up front and check out the headlamp area for mounting, etc. I’m trying to tackle one thing at a time. My car also doesn’t have a front air dam, so it may make sense to get the headlamp shields and the air dam and put them on together.
So, as if now I’m leaning towards getting the second ‘69 shield design.

Thanks, everyone!
Thanks, everyone!
No lift needed. I just took my grills and the headlight shields off my E69 to restore them and would be glad to talk you through any questions you might have. I've got quite a few pictures too if you need them. Happy to share my cell phone and email if you need help. Just drop me a PM and we'll get you fixed up. Given the shield deflection issues at high speeds note in the NCRS book, I think going with the latest design makes good sense. I'm also replacing the black lower front spoiler so I can help with that too....if you need it?

I actually don’t care much about the shields..truth be told my fellow C3 owners in my car club were giving me a hard time about it!
I do a lot of driving in rural areas, and rocks do fly up and hit the car, get embedded in the tire treads, etc.
Update:
Anyway, I ordered the later ‘69 style. The shields arrived today, and I hope to do the install myself soon. I heard I can do this without having to put the car on a lift, but I need to take the front grill off. Is that advice correct? I also bought the front air dam/spoiler, so I’d like to tackle both together.

I have a question about the lower spoiler.
Purchased an aftermarket one as mine was in horrible shape. It fits but the very front point is not snug. Any suggestions to get it to fit better there?
Maybe you could ask this question in your restoration thread to keep all replies in one location.
