Yes there is a timer relay, located most likely under the rear of the center consul padded arm rest attached to the metal support.
You should hear a distinct "Click" in that area if the timer relay is getting energized...
There maybe 2 relays in that general area but the timer relay part number should be 10014886, it looks like these E-BAY LINK:https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...14886&_sacat=0
Here is a diagram I did that includes the 1980...
There were 2 different defogger switches used on the 1980 depending if it is a early or late build 1980 but the circuit is the same...
Brilliant thanks, I thought it was there as I traced the pink wires but read different views, is there a way to test the relay before buying a new one as the fault could be the switch?
Ignition switch in either START or Run positions you are powering the switch and it splices to the timer relay, the wire spliced to the timer relay is the latch circuit because of the momentary style defogger switch.
The Lt.Blue wire circuit #972 is from switch to coil of the timer relay. This circuit energizes the timer relay and starts it TIME ON cycle.
You should also see voltage at the relay on the larger Orange/Black stripe wire circuit #60 at ALL times... Check for power at both the switch and timer relay (Pink Wires circuit 39) AND check for power at the (Orange/Black Wire circuit 60) at the timer relay.
You need power at both circuits above or the timer relay will not work.
