Here are two photos of a 1973 intake manifold, casting number 3997771 which was used on both the L48 and L82. I just got this correct date coded one in the mail today from Tracy, and I'm going over it planning the masking, painting, additional parts needed, etc. There is one item on the intake that I can't identify - the big hole on the left side just under the carburetor mounting surface that has a plug in it. Does anyone know what that is?

Reason: Typo in thread title.
Cannt answer why but every image of that manifold has it along with every image of a 73 engine complete.
That's good news. I've never seen it in any photo. Maybe it's always hiding behind the throttle linkage. The reason I bring it up is that the NCRS manual mentions an oil filler hole that existed in service replacement manifolds. This might be an oil filler hole - I dunno.

you don't put oil in an intake manifold. The hole for oil was 68 and earlier and was on the front edge of the manifold where a long tube was inserted
