Has anyone ever tried to tow a small camper trailer with a '72? I'm thinking of taking a final cross-country trip, and with my dog, moteling won't be easy. I have traveled quite a bit tenting, but that was a long time ago when I was younger.
I have come across a number of people who have towed with their C3's. My Survivor 71 LT1 was the promotional tow car for the General race car. I recently took the tow equipment off of the car for NCRS judging.
I towed a 8 or 10 foot uhaul behind my 78 L82 4 speed from New Mexico to east Texas, and then from east Texas to Arizona. Did not even know the uhaul was there. Wish I would have had a dog for company.

Thank you for that. The comment about the dog gave me a chuckle. Dogs don't complain too much.

They used to sell trailer hitches for vettes back in the day when it was just a car.
It's all about tongue weight so if it's set correctly it shouldn't cause steering issues
If you are lucky enough to have the owners manual, there may be a chart showing the towing limits. A quick goggle search finally turned up a class 1 Curt hitch at Advanced Auto. Their car choices only went back to 1975. This hitch had a max capacity of 2000 ponds with a 200 pound tongue weight.
I understand your situation. There are a number of ultra-light travel trailers under 2,000 lbs.
Options for stove/toilet/shower are available on the internet.
My daughter has one of those teardrop campers on a simple landscape trailer frame she pulled all over the east coast with her mini cooper. Having made 2 coast to coast road trips in the last 3 years with my truck ( not my vetet) look at an app called ROAD TRIPPERS. Tell it where you want to go and it will tell you all the neat places to stop and check out. Sounds like a fun trip but I am too old for the camping thing. Especially if it's raining. You might be surprised how many motels let you have a dog inside. Once you take off send pics back. For example, here is my dog in my vette at Mt Rushmore. Here is my dog in my vette at the Grand Canyon. Here is my dog in my vette in Vegas.....
I pulled a 16ft runabout all over the place with a 77, easily weighed 4klbs.
Pulled great, heavy duty frame, V8, heavy duty auto trans, posi, even did great pulling out of the ramp.
I have what I believe is a OEM trailer hitch for my ‘77. I welded a 2” receiver on it so I could put a bike rack on it. Works great, but I will say there is some flex in the hitch. I have a very sturdy Yakima two bike rack that weighs around 60-70 lbs. I then put my 25 lb mt bike on there for around 90 lbs. I too have heard the 200 lb tongue weight rule for C3’s. Mine only has half that weight but it is creating a bigger bending moment because of the distance of the weight away from the car. It probably flexes a half inch or so. I would pay pretty close attention to the tongue weight for anything you pull.
Any good welding shop can manufacture a nice bolt on trailer hitch for your Corvette.
Just make sure they make it with a 2” receiver.
Any Corvette could tow a lightweight camp trailer, tent trailer or teardrop.
Bolt the hitch on, take your road trip with your pup, then remove it.
I towed a flat bottom V drive drag boat with a Buick Skyhawk and used to tow my Harley with my Honda Civic.
Geez, I've been riding Harley's for 50 years. You RIDE them! Not tow them, there not boats!
You would tow it if you were traveling Interstate 5 from Northern to Southern California.
Ten hours of straight, flat, concrete roadway with potholes you could drop a VW bug into.
Add that and you need wipers on your helmet because you get battered by bugs the entire ride.
Oh I forgot, you have a couch on two wheels with a windshield and probably a sound system.
So you could do it.
I've pushed my Harley Shovelhead 5 miles on 275E Cincinnati by pass to Kings Island in the early 90's , they had a big parking lot and pay phones while I waited to get towed home
