OP, did you buy the black car in DREEZZEE's link above at Mecum Indy in May? That black car previously belonged to a friend of mine. He sold it (along with about 30 other Corvettes) to Dana Mecum last winter and Dana sold the whole collection, including the black DeMarco at Indy in May.
I don't really know much about the black car, or the DeMarco's in general, other than it was an aftermarket convertible conversion done on an 82 Corvette, and had a unique "DeMarco" VIN number. My friend's was the first DeMarco conversion done and was DeMarco serial number 0001. Because the conversions had their own VIN numbers, and were 17 digit like all other cars were in 82, I would think your state should title it as a "DeMarco" using the 17 digit assigned to it by the conversion company that begins "D1R". I can fully understand why a state DMV would object to titling it as an 82 Corvette, because the DeMarco VIN is nothing like a 1982 GM VIN, other than being 17 digits.
I'll be traveling tomorrow, but I will try to call Jack (the previous owner of the black DeMarco sold at Mecum) tomorrow or Friday and see if he has any more information or history about DeMarco's, or the person or company behind the conversion(s).

Welcome to the Forum!
Looks like it will be at Mecum Kissimmee in January.
Probably need to title is as a kit car.
But if it is selling in January why do you need to title it?
Unless the one being talked about by others here is just the example and not your actual car?
Seems like more than a convertible top conversion!? Did this car really start out as an '82? It has a carburetor and a manual transmission??? Wonder if that was part of the conversion or a previous owner made some changes? It would be interesting to see some more photos/details of underneath and everywhere else....(body tag/VIN/etc)...

I noticed that as well. Having owned two 82's I know what o look for. This car appears to be based on an 81. Maybe the conversion was done in 82. Has a weird VIN listed on the consignment description. I'll be in Kissimmee for the Mecum auction so I'll take a close look at it.
Looking at the OP's personal statistics, they posted their question about their Demarco on 10-30 and have never been back to the Forum? I don't know if they'll ever come back, but I finally got a chance to talk to the friend who previously owned the black Demarco VIN 0001 in the Mecum link above and now know slightly more about Demarcos.
My friend told me from what he could find out there were 40 or 50 Demarco's made, all converted by using stock GM 74-75 convertible rear clips and associated parts. Whoever or whatever Demarco is or was, when they did their conversions, they assigned their own VIN number to the cars. My friend lives in upstate NY and titled the black car as a Demarco using it's unique Demarco VIN number. NY state's DMV had Demarco in their system so they recognized it as a Demarco and he was able to title as such. The car started life as a 1980 or 81 Corvette but the conversion apparently took place in 82, which I guess is why Demarco assigned their own VIN to it and titled it as an 82? He found the car all apart in a container in Pittsfield MA years ago, bought it and had it repainted and restored it.
I just bought this car at the Indy Auction. Any chance your friend would be willing to talk with me? Would love more info on it.
