I picked this up while we sort out my son’s tumultuous build. My buddy’s shop had been working on it and I became friends with the former owner. My son just happened to run into him at school and they struck up a friendship. He mentioned that he had run into some financial trouble and was looking t sell it, we were very interested and ended up purchasing it.
It looked and ran great, all very well sorted. We got a good deal on it. What could go wrong?
I wanted this to try to get my son back into cars after the terrible time we’ve had with his. He wanted to do his car all himself, see link in first post. He had a great high school auto body and engine shop. It even had a paint booth. All of the after hours adults were really stoked that a 16 year old kid was into old cars. He was eager to learn from them. Then Covid shut it down for good.
This one was supposed to be all sorted out. Famous last words. We went to pick it up and he was happy to drive it home. Following him, I noticed he was driving a little erratically. Turned out that the not only was the steering very sloppy but the transmission line started shooting fluid right onto the right brake, making it effectively useless and making it pull very, very hard to the left. Coupled with a lot of slop in the wheel, which we’ve probably all experienced but never has, made for and interesting inaugural voyage. That’s the first of several ruined weekends for us with this car.
My buddy that owns the shop that has been doing a lot of the work on it offered to take time on a Sunday, his only day off, and fix it for me. That was within the first 24hrs of owning it.
