wtb 1968-72 Front Crossmember
I am looking for a 1968 Front Crossmember! If you don't know where it goes, it should be http://216.254.32.120/jun98/erd9.jpg here on the end of the frame. I am also looking for other parts to complete the project, if you have a parts car it could help us both.

Are you talking about the member that holds the front bumper braces and is your vacuum supply for your headlights?

Re: wtb 1968-72 Front Crossmember (my74ls4)
My Mid America book identify it as gm part 3938080 Brace Assembly, it then bolts up to the frame with two 15 inch extension arms gm part 3915765. If it somehow this was also used as a vacuum canister, that would explain the slow headlamps. (I always blamed it on the cam, however I didn’t see any hoses going to the assembly)
Anyway the ZIP catalog shows a picture of one the extension arms at http://www.zip-corvette.com/frames/56-82cat/22Body.pdf" TARGET="_blank"> http://www.zip-corvette.com/frames/56-82cat/22Body.pdf</a> indicated as “Bumper Bracket” in the lower left hand corner of the page along with part of the crossmember assembly. Most of the bumper brackets bolt up to this crossmember assembly, and mine currently has a lot of cancer.

That’s the one,
I already replaced its broken frame and found some of the attached parts are toasted. This simple repair (right) session has gotten out of hand, the 68 had a hard life & I hope to put it back to "almost right". Being that none of the major numbers match anymore she may someday look good but her value to others will be minimal

boatbeat,
I replaced mine with a new one ($170) few years ago. Those cross members known to be rusted from inside out. Your 68 project sounds like mine! There is a big Corvette swap next weekend in Carlise. That's where the used parts are. I might come back again this year.
Where are you about?

I assume you are talking about "Carlise, Pa", have to talk the wife into the "414.1 miles, 8 hours 19 min, 22 turns" cross country journey. But after seeing the WEB page below it may not be that hard. She is so sick of boat club functions this year, a little corvette party might put here back in the mode.

Re: wtb 1968-72 Front Crossmember (cgebert)
Thanks: They have new aftermarkets on the shelf - 199.95, didn’t know they still made them. I got an Email for a used one at 99. (It's a start)
Maybe I will use this opportunity for a field trip to the PA swap meet? I have so many things other things that I am looking for (not specifically assessed). This specific part is on the 'critical path' and holding up body alignment and boltdown process. (I love gantt charts)

I found a used one at general swap meet last year off a 68 for $50.
If they want more then 1/2 I would buy a new one.

Re: wtb 1968-72 Front Crossmember (gtr1999)
Good price, a new one would clash with the frame and 'look replaced'!
The frame looks good now, but the pits are noticeable even under the fresh paint!
