Hey DB,

How will these do on my stock L48? It should raise the compression some shouldn't it?

Are you coming to Louisville anytime soon?

Yeah they would bump your compression, I think from 8.5 to 9.5 or very close. We'd have to use a calculator to get it exactly but it would help a lot. Would you be making any other changes?

I think Sarah and I are planning a trip the second weekend of September.

Well obviously a vortec manifold and a better cam, preferably a semi-aggressive sounding one.

I am assuming these are iron? I don't want to deck the block for fear of them taking off the numbers.

Yeah these are iron, basically stock right off a truck engine. If you keep your cam lift under .470" you won't have to do any machining.

Have you done any research on any combos with these heads..as far as HP and TQ numbers? I may even re-do the bottom end out to a 383.

Still not sure what I am wanting to do yet, not sure if this is the way I want to go.

Vortec heads flow very well and a search might turn up someone I remember building a 383 with them. I don't think they were stock or not, but using these heads, free flowing exhaust, and a good tune you can get 300 HP at the rear wheels.

OK, did some research and I found that a lot of people have modified the retainers to accept a larger lift cam. There are a lot of people that love these heads and can get easily 400HP which is right up my alley.

If I bought these, could you bring them with you next trip down here? It would probably save a lot on shipping, plus I am not ready to put the block back in yet.

BTW, I guess I missed it, why are you getting rid of this stuff and the L-82 block? Getting something else I assume?

Yeah these heads have huge potential, but as you found, require modifications to really wake an engine up. The Vortec heads that Curt has on his engine are after market but basically the only difference is the higher lift springs and new valve train parts.

I would be happy to bring them to you, as I said might be in a few weeks.

I'm actually selling this stuff because it's extra and I need the space and I need the money for the wedding. The engine I am building for my Vette is a 405, with aluminum Vortec heads...highly modified, ready to support 450 HP. I simply don't have a need for an L82 block or the extra heads.

You are welcome to buy them, and I will bring them to you when we drive to Louisville. Should save you $75.

OK, I think this will be what I am looking to do. I will take them. Do you want money now or when you come down? Or I can even send a deposit, whatever works for you.

I would appreciate the payment now, then I can consider them sold and hold on to them until I come out that way and deliver they to you. If that's okay with you, I'll PM you my Paypal info and we'll go from there.

Thanks Chris.

If there is another post like the previous one, vacations will surely
follow for those in violation.
