WTB - Quadrajet #7040207
Hi all,
Just missed one on ebay and now angry enough to pay more.
Please let me know if you see one out there. My build date is Mar. 18, 1970 but prefer one prior to my engine build date of Mar. 5.
Thanks,
Greg

Late 69 date code. I know how hard they are to find. Let alone one that covers the first 6 months of production

Burning Brakes
Greg;
I feel your pain. I was also following the 7040207 carb on that auction site. Still kinda scratching my head over the price on that one, but that is the market on these very hard to find carbs apparently. The eight bidders kind of determined that. Reminds me of the 1100900 spring '70 alternator I'm still looking for.
Along with the price of the carb, the idle set decel was missing. I've never seen one of those for sale. The supplied replacement air horn (top) was not the correct one, although I suppose you could use one from a 7040202, or a 7029207 to get the idle vent. These carbs are much more common, but continue to add to the cost.
When you factor in the date code, you get pushed back farther into the corner. I followed with interest Dennis' posting his carb for sale, possibly purchasing as a back-up carb for me, but my 2 L46's were built in June and July, quite as stretch.
My documented early June car has a carb date of 0650, around March 6. With a trim date of May 29th, that's about 85 days. Subtract 85 days from your build date, and you come up with late Dec. '69.
IMHO, the carb Dennis had listed looks better all the time. With that carb, you know what you would be getting, Dennis is a good guy.
Good luck.................Dave

Guys,
Thanks for the replies.
Dave, I'm glad you filled me in on the problems with that ebay deal. I very nearly found out the hard way and am no longer kicking myself for not bidding higher.
Funny thing is, it got me looking harder than before and I came across Dennis' ad plus another very old post right here on the CF. I never thought to search here!
Anyway, I quickly hooked up with the older poster, so Dennis, I'm only able to consider yours if I need a back up. I've already struck a deal and this one is professionally restored. hopefully it's done right.
Could be karma... this one has the exact same date stamp as the ebay one that had me going all last week.
