Good photos, Dennis. I just know that the SEALED ones are kinda hard to find and usually gets bid up on eBay. The 1971 ones with the red sticker can be hard to find, too, but with the reproduction stickers being so close to the original ones someone can make a 1971 cap fairly easily. Just pay attention to the SMC stamps. The reproductions have a double lined S stamp.

Todd, the one you show is a 1972 cap. The one Jim shows is dead-on correct for 1970 and 1970 only. It has SEALED stamped on it and the SMC stamp on the underside. 1971 had the word SEALED on it with a red metal sticker on the lower side that said 'CAUTION OPEN SLOWLY' printed on it. They all used cork gaskets.
Thanks for the photos. This is visual stuff people like to see.

You are correct of course. There were various "sealed" caps. (But this one is still for sale.)

Good thread. Never can know enough
They say that 71 sealed with the red sticker is the" holy grail "of the caps

Michael, if the fuel cap you want is for your '71 it required a sealed cap as that was what your fuel tank was designed for. The 1971 Corvette fuel caps are hard to come by. A 1971 cap just popped up on eBay today starting at $50 Reserve Not Met. I think I bought the last one off eBay before this one came up. I paid more than $50 for it then. If you are looking for a vented cap for other reasons they are somewhat easy to find. In fact, there is one on eBay that is currently at $11 or so.
Toddalin, I already have one 1972 fuel cap like yours and sold a reproduction one to a local person for $15. They are a bit more common than 1970 and 1971 sealed fuel caps which all three are unique for the years they are for but all three will work on 1970-1972 Corvettes.
