Default C3 rear diff

Anyone know what type of differential is in the C3s? Thinking of buying one to build a pro street car. Have a C6 but don't really trust the new trans and diff for that type of HP stress. Thank you for your help ahead of time

How much HP? Will you drag it much? Weakest link is the u joints. Depending on how far you're planning on going, a Ford 9" might be the best choice. /:\

Yes a weak one. If you are going over 500HP and any type of sticky tire you are going to put a lot of $$$ into it and it will still be marginal. Toms has a 12 bolt IRS setup tha twill withstand 8 second ETs.

I appreciate your help. I was hoping for a little better news.Thats about the same strenghth as my C6. At least it will be cheaper to fix the C3 and have no affect on my 100000 mile warranty. How bad can it be to pit a 9" Ford in? Take care guys.

While the stock C2/C3 diff/IRS has limitations, a properly built 12-bolt IRS will take considerably more punishment than most owners are likely to dish out. So, before you hack up your Corvette's rear suspension, there are other viable options worth consideration, but unless I've missed more recent news word is that Tom is no longer building 12-bolt IRS hog-heads. Fortunately, forum member and C2/C3 diff guru GTR1999 does, along with fairly stout 10-bolts.

edit - BTW, if you start with an '80-82 frame, the stock diff is weaker still, and you can't retrofit the 12-bolt IRS setup without some significant frame reworking.
