ttt for you.
Not trying to highjack the thread but:
Dave
I am wondering what you were wanting to get out of your 73 engine core?
Thanks
Tim

Hi, I have a 73 L-82 but its out of a 4 speed car. Complete from Intake to pan. Has nice valve covers, straight tin. 74,000 miles. Good core, pulled the intake and pan, 1182 crank, 970010 block, 330545 heads and 777 Intake. Has Dist w/band I.D. but rough shaft and cross gear. Original forged pistons, pink rods and stock windage tray. This motor had never had the intake or pan off. Original GM gaskets. Also have 3 air cleaner assemblies. No carb, but has ramhorn exaust manifolds but not sure if original. Unfortunately not a CLK for auto.

So, you are going to deck half the pad? Do you really think thats a good idea? Can't wait to see those broach marks.
If you are going to take it to one of the major restampers, the price will include stamping the VIN and assydate/prefix/suffix. What's the upside of only trying to stamp half?
Sounds like you are making it harder than necessary.

I bought a complete CLD L82 from a forum member a few years ago. I took it to the machine shop and had them check it out. The original bores and pistons were still in great shape so they put new rings, cam and lifters, and a valve job. The thing runs perfect. Even though it's not the numbers matching motor for my car it does feel good to have a '73 L82 back under the hood of my '73 Good luck in your search.
