Surely there are enough people who would buy one that someone has to know someone who can make something similar. I'll probably just have to go with a shelby style like this :

Several have installed this type. Most have used a more generic one that they fit to the deck. There is atleast on out there that uses your original lid mounting point to install it so no cutting or drilling but it is pricey.
There are also some lids similar to the op's pic made for some mustangs that could probably be converted to something close to what he is looking for. Run a google search on shelby gas caps and you'll find different styles. It's atleast a good starting point.

If anyone is looking for a Le-Mans style cap, check this web site.
mustalgia.com
He sells these caps for vette's, they are advertised as a direct fit. There are pics on the site for installation on a 75 model. I am looking at getting one but the actual tank cap on the 75 looks smaller than the one on my 72. My cap is 3 1/2 inches diam. I'm just waiting to hear back about the size.
I will let you know when I find out.
Cheers, Doug

I'd be game to make a small batch of these lids after cruise season.
I've got full cnc capabilities here and mainly do this type of work.
If there is real interest, I'd be willing to tooling up for a very limited run, 6061 or 7075 aluminum, stainless button heads. I'd probable leave out the emblem, (just cut the hole some standard size) and you could buy and stick them in.
I can copy the door from my 72, someone would have to measure up a 78+ one to see what the differences really are.
Anyway, if I can get some solid interest (no dreamers please) I'll design one up and post the 3d models for opinions
