Hello -
Try contacting MS - DMV - get an FOIA form, fill it out asking for a "Title History" it's worth a shot. That's what found my 77 in the long run. The original title was on "microfiche" but when they pulled it up the back was stamped "surrendered to Texas" which put me on to Texas.
Also, when I was on the hunt I call several DMV offices and asked if there was a "car guy" in the office.
The last office I called in Texas had a car guy, I explained what I needed, in 10 minutes he had faxed me an FOIA that I faxed back and I had the current owners name - I called 411 (no internet) got a phone number, called and found out they sold my car the week before but knew the new owner, got his number and called and explained the story to him. He asked "whats sentimental value worth to you Frank?" HA !
Within a week I was driving it home -
Miracles do happen, good luck,
Frank

I hope they do, for his sake.
I bought a car (a coupe for clarification) that doesn't have a single original VIN on it anywhere. The CA DMV issued a foil label that's attached to the A-pillar and to the right rear kick-up. He may never find the car..
Sorry and sad.
