This 350 Engine has been sold.
Thank you for your interest and best regards,
David
Gordon and I were building an engine for my 1972 road racer corvette when I got the idea from fellow forum members to build the car using a big block versus a small block engine. Gordon and I are building a 496 Stroker Engine to run on the 72 Racer so the 350 cu. in. engine is not going to be needed for that build.
We took a 350/270 engine and put a nice little loper cam, some new valves, lifters, Edelbrock EFM intake, added an HEI distributor, and have a new Summit 600 CFM street and strip carburetor to go along with it. We estimate it will push about 320 HP now plus or minus a little but it will be a spirited addition to someone's tired engine for sure. A new aluminum water pump, new fuel pump, and a rebuilt starter are all included with the engine. You finish the installations and fire it, break it in, run it.
We have about $1,800 invested in it but would like to get it to a good home so we are offering this one as is for the first $1,400 offer we get.
A few questions you may have. Yes, it was a running engine before we rebuilt it. No, we have not gotten it to the firing stage yet. Yes, I will crate and ship it if you pay for the crating and shipping. Yes, it is a nice engine and way below what you would pay to do this yourself. This engine was bored .030" over, has new internals, a cast crank, two bolt main seal, cast date J221 which is October 22, 1971 making it a late October or early November 1972 Corvette engine.
First come, first served.
Gordon and I can answer any questions you may have about this engine build.
Per forum rules I am making this engine available for sale only because I am no longer going to use it in my own car.
Please PM me with questions.
Thank you and best regards,
David Howard
PS: for anyone who needs to see proof that I am building an alternate engine for my 1972 project, here is the block I am working with now.
You can find a thread here about the 72 race car replica build here on the forum. Just to clarify, this engine is going into the 72 Road Race Replica and is not for sale. LOL.
Thank you again and best regards,
David Howard

For anyone who is considering this, David is about as honest and fair of an individual you would want to purchase something from.
I have purchased a couple of things from him and he has always exceeded my expectations.

The bottom end was redone on this motor as well. I pulled this motor down all the way as it was redone a few years ago and i wanted to make sure everything was done right and lubed up properly so it fired up without any issues. The machine work was all done but whoever put this together originally was not to motor savy. They forgot an oil pump driveshaft and a fuel pump rod. So needless to say I'm glad I pulled it down. Just trying to be honest here. The motor was reassembled with all the proper lubes and torqued correctly. All new gaskets were used and the heads have been redone so there should be no issues. Im not sure the exact compression ratio but looking at the heads and pistons I would say we are in the 9.5 to 1 range .The cam im not sure of the brand but did a lot of investigating and it is similar to a comp cams 262H cam. This is by no means a race motor but should provide good performance in the under 5500 rppm range. I would estimate as David said in the 320 HP range.

I'm also interested but would like to know more about the heads. Casting #?
Any work done to the heads at all?
Like Bill, I am also in GA (Hi, Bill! Remember me from Atl Dragway?) and realize I am behind him in line. No problem there.

Both heads are 3973487 used in 1971 and 1972 for the 270hp & 330hp engine in 71; rerated in 72 to 200hp & 255hp.
Thank you for your interest and best regards,

Engine is sitting up on my Bend Pack lift but I climbed up there and removed the valve cover to get a picture of the heads. Here you go.
Gordon can detail what he did to the heads here as soon as he can get a chance to do so.
More information to follow and thanks for your interest guys.

Before we get too far, I think it'd be prudent to know what the shipping/crating costs are to GA.
I'm definitely interested but I worry that this s&h cost will kill the value I see in the deal.
Believe me, I know you'd rather sell it locally. I sold an engine not too long ago and wanted nothing to do with shipping it so restricted it to local sales only.

Give me your location in Georgia and I can give you an accurate estimate. We have lots of options available to us depending upon where you are located.
In 2015 alone I have delivered a 350 engine from the 72 car that I parted out earlier this year and met Jonathan in Virginia Beach where we moved the engine from my truck to his truck. He was from North Carolina, I was from Pennsylvania, so we met somewhere in between.
I delivered a 76 frame to a gentleman in Georgia, nice drive.
I picked up a wrecked 1981 car in the far hills of North Carolina to get the ZZ4 engine, Smokey Mountain retrieval I called it. I picked up a 1972 in Virginia and another is Ohio this year and then back to Ohio for a better frame, all to build my 72 coupe, my 72 road race replica and my 69 chassis. Have truck and trailer, will travel.
Anyway, give me your location please and I will see what the options might be for you.
Best regards,
David

I just saw your city and state on your Avatar, sorry I didn't catch that earlier. Milton, GA and or Marietta, GA. Got it.

The heads were not rebuilt by me. When I pulled them off to check them out they looked fresh. I pulled one intake and one exhaust valve to see what was done. It looks like a very good job of a stock rebuild. As you can see it has new rockers and ***** and nuts and pushrods. He did paint the motor with no valve covers hence the orange overspray. The new rocker ***** and nuts are lubed up and the valvetrain has an initail adjustment. Should be ready to fire up.

My plan would be to pull that cam out and put solid flat tappet in so the cam specs are irrelevant to me.
I have no use for the intake, carb, distributor or fuel pump if you'd rather keep them and knock some bucks off. Or I could try to resell on ebay.

That sounds good. I wish the heads were 64cc instead of the big 75cc or that it had domed pistons to bump that CR a little but I'm not going to pass it up just because of that.
