454 LS6 NOS 1979 cast dates
I'm not sure if Corvettes were offered with the LS6 in 1970 so this is a long shot that someone wants this.
It is a new create engine minus the crate that I have no idea where it is so if it means anything you are out of luck. I purchased it from a local dealer 11 years ago.
Casting dates are 1979 and the stamped # ID is the GM 454-450 HP classic from the 1970's design. What ever came with the crate engine from the dealer is still on this and it is not painted orange. Only thing not original is the oil used to pickle it and the wooden dolly used to move it.
Asking $11,500.00 and no charge for a crate or pallet if I need to make one and shipping is not included.
If interested send a reply.

530,
I will post some photos of the ID numbers ASAP. The casting dates are 1979. The original specs for this crate engine were for the 1970 SS Chevelle. I have been informed that there was such a thing as a Corvette with the LS6 option but I will not take that to be fact. Three digits stamped on the front of the block just in front of the intake were used to ID the engine as an LS6. There is a part number stamped on the underside that the dealership used to look it up in their inventory.
One tempted buyer explained that GM stopped making the LS6 in 1972 but the Guru who does all my engine work claims that GM kept making them way after that.
I will try to get the photos and info later this week when I get to the garage.

They made "crate LS-6's" up until the late '70's early '80's as one of my buddies bought the last one which was sitting on a shelf in Boston over 20+ years ago. GM stopped putting them in car's in '72 but did continue to build them like the LS-7's of that era. He gave me the flywheel off that motor as he was putting it in an '87 Wrangler short box 4x4 with 44 inch tires...... Real neat truck after we were done with it.

Thanks for that info. Over the many years I have owned this several responses tell me more or less the same thing. There is a code stamped that someone confirms is the LS6 but other responses disclaim that info. I've never opened the engine so I'm going by what the GM dealer told me and your input about GM still building these after the early '70's supports their claim. My plans to drop it in my BB '66 are on hold for now but never gone as long as it sits here I appreciate your response. PS. Claims that this is not an LS6 also came with a very low offer. DUH

Well it should be a "512" block with "291" Rec port heads and a "569" intake if it is. And it has to be a 4 bolt main block as well-easy to tell just by looking at it from the oil filler side. The holes there should be drilled and tapped with plugs. They did that for external oil coolers. 2 bolts are not drilled.

My desk top crashed last week and it's a pain using a cell phone as a computer. I will take photos and notes this weekend and get them posted. As far as internals like head castings I have never removed the oil pan or valve covers but everything else I can verify. Naturally. If anyone is serious about buying this we will open it up and check casting numbers.

My friend bought an LS6 crate motor in about 1987 or so from Gallo GMC in Vineland, NJ (now closed) for his 67 Camaro. It was painted black with some kind of "off road use only" type stickers on the valve covers. With (various) muncie four speeds and a 3:08 gears it was both the most outrageous yet docile car I ever drove.
Also I remember both LS6s and LS7s being advertised in those PAW ads in the hot rod magazines all through the 80s. And tons of chrysler 392 hemi stuff too. Better times...

Once again I apologize for lack of info but so much other family crap is taking up my time. The weather is still weird with daily temps from the 20's up to the 70's in no particular order. Friday hit the 70's and today it snowed, then rained and snow again and now the sun is shinning but winds are gusting.
In order to get to the engine I need to open the garage door, move the Vette aside (that is on 4 dollies) then pull out the body jig and under the covers is the engine. I'm working on it!!!

I bought a 68 convertible last year with that block number(14015445) Could get pos id on it but was told by many that it was definitely a 454, when I bought the car was told it was a 427. Let me tell you it is an incredibly powerful motor
