1480 Tom's rear axle setup for sale!
Great opportunity for someone who plans on running into the huge horsepower numbers.....
I have a set of 1480 rear outer axles complete setup (outers only) that come from Tom's differentials. Tom's is world renowned in the Corvette world (among others) for creating high performance suspension and drivetrain parts for our cars.
Unfortunately, serious rumor has it that he is hanging up his hat very soon, so this supply may disappear.
I bought this setup thinking I needed this level of strength for my 600hp project.
These will perform in 1000hp setups easily.
Turns out the trailing arms that I have will not handle the much larger size of the 1480s.
The 1350 setup will do fine for my needs.
I have attached the pages from Tom's catalog for you to look at.
Keep in mind that the 1480 complete kit includes the inner axles and the 1/2 shafts.
My understanding is that at one time you could buy these setups (inner and outer) separately but as Tom wound down his business he started selling off complete setups only.
If you have a beefed up differential with the 12 bolt rear setup now which is already reinforced with the thicker, stronger spindles (axles) then this outer setup is perfect for you.
The listing in Tom's catalog on pg20 shows the complete setup for $2822.
My setup has the outer spindles, the inner flange, all new bearings (4), all new seals (4), 2 spacers (solid), 2 washers and 2 nuts. It also has the ARP 1/2" wheel studs.
Worth $1400.
REDUCED IN PRICE.....LOOKED UP WHAT I PAID FOR THEM....ONLY $550 + SHIPPING
I am giving you folks first crack at this as it is a pretty specialized setup for our Vettes. Come Sunday, I'll list it on ebay for $1400.
I'll be adding pics asap.
Here's Tom's catalog.

Txs for looking.

more pics and specs
Here is close ups of one axle pair and the other set parts.
All Made In the USA
Timken Bearings and National seals.
Spindle diameter is huge 1.377
Both of the flanges are 5.75" diameter
Bearings - Timken 778-08 - all 4 new
Only thing missing is 2 new #5113 National outer seals - on order.
If you check Tom's pages it will list all the part numbers for the seals and bearings.
Nothing lightweight about this setup.

Another point....our good friend Gary Ramadei will set up these axles for you without sending him the trailing arms.
He can do it with the bearing support housing, bearings, sleeve and seals.
He quoted me a very good price to do that.
Contact him directly for some first class work. It will save you a ton of money in shipping if you were going to send out the entire arms to someone.

If I had your torque monster I would do that.
Just too much overkill.
A Super 10 4.11 rear should be sufficient.
I looked into keeping these but Gary Ramadei suggests that matching up 1480 outers to 1350 inners would be costly.
So..like you said...either go all out 12 bolt conversion and 1480 inners and keep these...
Or go to 1350 all the way around.
Just trying to get my money back at this point.
