Too bad that you're not looking for an earlier battery. I purchased my '74 from the original owner who purchased it from the dealership where he worked. He worked in the parts department for 15+ years. The car came with a stockpile of NOS parts, including a battery....unused and still in the box. I just walk out to my garage to check it. I think it's a 1976 battery, based on the punch out dates on the placed in service date label on the battery....it has removable tabs for '76, '77, '78 and '79.
It's a Delco E-5000 "R" Series model R87P battery. There is a parts order/picking tag in the box the lists the following part # 5966077.

Hello:
I'm looking for a battery for my '79; your post is a few months old but I was wondering if you still had the Delco battery you described. If so, can you send me some photographs? I'll send you my e-mail in a PM. Thanks.

Wrong type altogether.
You need a Delco Freedom Battery type (but not a Freedom II)
(on edit an r87p, "may" be a Freedom battery, the e-5000 threw me off as sounds like the Delco Energizer series, pics would help, but all the rest below is the same)
Second, NOS batteries decay over time and do not hold a charge properly. Third, NOS counter batteries have a warranty "punch-out" decal that was not applied to an original factory installed battery.
