Default Hot Pursuit - Check Your Stuff Please

I have a few people helping me now and I am opening this up to a wider audience because, well, more eyes are better I think.

For a lot of reasons I won't bore you with here I need a proportioning valve. I have some requirements.

1) It needs to be OEM and not after market.
2) It needs to have good threads on the various openings.
3) It needs to be from a 1970, 1971, 1972, or 1973 car.

1968 and 1969 will not work.
1974-1977 will not work.
1978-1982 will not work.

1970-1973 original will work.

If you have one, I need one. If you cannot confirm the year it came from then please don't offer it up for sale to me.

If you have one, want to sell one, can help me, contact me please.

Thank you and best regards,

David Howard

David,
I have one from a 72'.
I will send it to you, just PM me your address. I am 99% sure I still have it and I will
confirm when I get home this weekend.
Happy Holidays!

Hi,
Original 70-72 brake fluid distribution blocks were stamped with a Julian date. The day of the year and the year.
So it's pretty straight forward to know what year car it was originally installed on.
Regards,
Alan

I would assume this would be OK with David but since his car is in my garage and this is what it is for could you send it to me. We are having a heck of a time getting the correct valve. I'll PM you my address. David and I spent Monday afternoon chasing this issue and this would confirm our findings and get the brakes going in the right direction.

This wouldn’t work?

http://www.zip-corvette.com/68-82-c3...ing-valve.html

I have a brand new one that is supposed to be correct for a 72 sitting on my shelf at home, I think the manufacturer is MB or something like that, and I don’t remember where I bought it from. If it will help you, let me know.

EDIT: I just found the one I have at home, it is made by MBM: http://mbmbrakes.com/corvette-1970-7...tioning-valve/

if you can tell me the thread size of your lines, I can verify what I have on my shelf.

David, not trying to hijack. But, if anyone had a lead on just the 69-73 brake low pressure switch I am in need of one due to busting mine. Can't seem to find just the switch online.

Back in the day, my Company (Kelsey Hayes) made brake valves for GM (I was the Engineer) as I remember, all the GM valves had the same port thread sizes.
Front in: 1/2-20
Rear in: 7/16-24
Rear out 9/16-18
Front out 3/8-24

Chrysler, AMC and Ford made them different depending on application.
It's possible the valve on your car was changed years ago with an after market piece and the tube nut was changed.

Can you post a picture of any numbers/letters stamped on the valve you have? Maybe we can figure out what it is.

Looks like a 1976 valve.
Thank you though.

David,
I will verify when I get home friday and I am going to text pics to Gordon. He also sent me his address so I can send it to him if it in fact is what you need.
PM me your cell number and I can send pics to both of you.

I think you are correct on this but the valves I have both of the outs are 1/2 inch. The Rear line does not thread into the block which leads me to believe the correct thread is 9/16.

OK measuring the holes I have
Front in 1/2 20
Front out 1/2 20
Rear out 1/2 20
Rear in 7/16 24

So this valve is all F ed up.

The lines I have which between David and I we have about 3 sets are
Rear in and out are 9/16 18
Front in and out are all 1/2 20

OK, The valve I have looks exactly like the on 7t2vette posted. It looks new, no stampings. I know the smaller fittings fit lines from a 69'.
I am texting pics now. This was on a 72 chassis I purchased a while back.

The valve 7t2vette posted is not a "porportioning" valve, it is a distribution block that also has the brake failure switch incorporated. Many times a seperate porportioning valve was installed in the rear brake line to control rear brake lockup. These 2 functions were integrated into a common body at some point in time which is what the other pictures are of. I would think the one 7t2vette has is correct for your car.

If you still have the original valve, they are easy to rebuild. Just 2 o'rings on a piston.

Frame didn't come with the original on it so I had to start from scratch. I agree though, easy to rebuild if you are using the switch.
Thank you.
