Default FS or TRADE 70/71 for 69E rallys (15x8)

SOLD

I've got a set of very late 70 or 71 15x8 rallys for sale at $375, but would much rather trade for a set of EARLY 69's in equal condition. Tires would be included. Two hold air one has a slow leak and the other has a very slow leak, but a leak none the less. Or I can remove the tires. I love the look of these tires and would actually like to find a good set.

These are straight and no dents or anything like that and I would expect the same in a trade -- straight, no dents, dings etc. These have not been restored and do need to be cleaned up and repainted. I'm in Northern VA and I'm not interested in shipping but am willing to drive a little bit (100mi?) for a good trade.

1. K 10 10 15 AZ
2. K 10 10 15 AZ
3. K 10 10 13 AZ
4. K 10 10 27 AZ

PM me if you're interested, let me know.

Just trying to assist. You should post the date range you are looking for. When you indicate 69E are you talking about wheels dated late 1968? If so, they are difficult to find as I needed an entire set for my sept 68' built 69'. I had to pay premium prices for them.
Good Luck............

Thanks jhudec. My 69 car has a 10/2/68 build, so I suppose that's a pretty tight window. I'm not looking for this car to be judged or anything like that I just what it to at least to be in the same year...so I guess I don't have a specific range. I'm not sure when they started making the 8" in 68 for the 69 cars? If so, I guess 15x8 wheels that have a date prior to 10/2/68? However, I will consider the 69's if they're good straight wheels.

Sure, the earliest AZ wheels I have seen are aug 1968. I just think you will be paying a premium for these wheels compared to what you have. Even if you just settle for 69' dated wheels you will be doing a lot of work. I wanted correctly dated wheels in case I had the car judged. So, you are really looking for aug/sept dated 68' wheels. Personally, if you are not having the car judged I would stick with the known good/straight set of AZ wheels you have.
Again good luck. I am not sure how long you have had the car, but over time you will find a few other items that will differ from later built 69's.

So, if I found some K 18 9 10 AZ 15x8 that would be good, right?

Maybe.
Those could be 1978 dated wheels. Most of the early wheels had 1 small BB sized weld on the outer bead of the rim. You should have these on you 1970 dated wheels. Plus I believe you would read date(on an early wheel) from the outside of the wheel looking toward the hub. In your picture you read the date from hub looking out. Also, Alan is correct only the spare is judged, but you are not going that route, only I am **** wanted the correct dates for all 5 of my wheels.

The earliest 1968 dated AZ rims I have ever seen were dated 8-16-1968. I have two rims with that date in my stash. I bought them only because they were so early and never seen any that early before (or since).

There are sellers everywhere, including on the forum who do not know how to tell 68 rims from 78 but advertise them as "early 69".

1968 AZ rims have the little BB sized spot weld on the outer rim lip, as Joe stated. I think it was meant to indicate the low spot of the rim? Also, the stamped date looks very different. The 68 valve stem stamp has a larger K18 then the 78. Also the 78 has it stamped as K-1-8. There are numerous other small differences but those are enough to tell them apart. I'll try to get some pics of the 8-16 wheels today but its damn cold out in the garage.

The wheels I have do have a little BB type thing on the outer lip. I'll have to get more info on whether or not the BB is on what I believe to be 69E wheels. Here's a photo of the date stamp on two of them. Let me know what you think and what I should pay for these if they're in fact what I'm looking for?

[QUOTE]

Those wheels are original 68 dated 69 wheels. Prices vary on them and how nice they are but I wouldn't pay more than $100 per wheel, clean, straight and unrestored. They are harder to find but I would not call them rare. They made a lot of Corvettes during that time and lots of rims.

By be way, just to let you know how much I pay attention to these things, the picture you are showing is also the same picture on the Massapequa Craigslist for a guy selling a set of 4 rims with rings and caps for $500.

Those would be them. They look pretty clean...CL pics are difficult to make out sometimes. It's a bit of a drive for me so I'd want to make sure they're what I "think" they are before I would commit to a buy.
