I have a set of GM retainers that I would consider selling that would work fine on your current 6 hole rack. I used these retainers on my '74 with a 6 hole rack. They hold the tops down securely at any speed...including interstate speeds.
If you're looking to put in an 8 hole rack I can tell you that the mounting holes mount in slightly different locations, so it's not just a matter of drilling the 2 additional upper-center holes...the remaining 6 holes will not line up perfectly. For a plug-n-play replacement you will need to replace your current rack with another GM 6 hole rack.
If you're interested in just the retainers alone, let me know and I can dig them out and include some pics.
Regards,
Dave

Hello Dave,
Thanks for the reply. I want to keep the luggage rack I currently have. The one thing thats missing are the pins in the rack to hold the brackets in place. I was thinking about modifying the rack myself. Does your rack have the pins or do you use it without?
Thanks
Doug

Good morning Doug,
You don't actually need the pins on the rack to mount your tops. They are nothing more than locating pins to assist in fast-repeatable placement of the retainers.
My rack did not have the locating pins either, and what I did was to install the retainers, make small locating marks, drilled 2 small holes, then installed my own "locating" screws. You do not need the pins for the strap. Once the tops on on the rack and the strap is tightened, nothing is going to slide around or move anywhere. After you snug the strap, the tops are mounted very securely in place.
In the shot below, I highlighted where I mounted my 2 retainer "locating" screws. They took me 10 minutes to install and worked great. My tops spent more drive time on the rack than they did on the car!
I hope this helps. If you have any other qiestions, please don hesitate to ask.

Good morning Dave,
Yes, that really helps. I just want to free up some space behind the seats...lol.
Do you have the holders and strap for sale? Please let me know if so and how much.
Thanks
Doug

Hi Doug,
Here are pictures of the retainers and strap. These are GM retainers and look like new. I would like $165.00 (shipping included) to the lower 48. I do take paypal...either friends/family or you pay the fees. Let me know if you are interested.

Doug,
Glad the retainers made it to you safe and sound! Below I am including a pic of how they mount, as I indicated in my PM. Pictures save me a lot of typing. That's important to me since I only use thumbs...and apparently I have 10 of them.
Hope the shot helps!
