Default WTB 454 water pump # 3940960 1970

Looking to buy a “C” or “D” date code 1970 water pump #3940960 rebuildable core or rebuilt unit. I have a C 70 block and a D 70 block. My car was built in July of 1970 - last month of production for the 1970 model. I’m trying to put together a period correct “512” block. Currently have a CZU 4 speed block and also a GCW automatic block.
Let me know what is available. Was advised by forum member that the 3856284 was not correct waterpump for my build.

Respectfully,

Tugboat53

I am not completely sure but I think the 70 454 used a different coded water pump. I could be wrong but I thought by the end of 1969 they stopped using the 284 water pumps.

My car was built in late July 1970 - what would be the correct number then ? Please convey any information that identifies the correct pump information. This “284” number is the only number that I was able to come up with my limited research information. I’m building a driver car but want to get it period correct. Thanks for your observation and input.

Thanks and Respectfully,

You should be looking for a 3940960 casting number

Are you looking to sell one of the 512 blocks you have?

Ray, Thank you for interest and input. I was not sure as I had consulted a reference named “Covette By The Numbers” publication. May I ask you to direct me to your references? I am going to change my add to reflect part # 3940960. I will sell the GCW 512 block if I can make my CZU block work with my heads and intake dates. My car is a 4 speed car so the CZU is more correct but is an earlier dated casting. Again it’s a NOM car - boo hiss but it’s as close
As I can get to period correct. Stay in touch and I will advise what I will do with the extra 512 block.

Thanks again,

Respectfully,

tugboat, don't know if you saw it or not but bill mock has one listed on the ncrs site. a little pricey but I bought a small block pump from him and the restoration/rebuild was very nice.cant read the date on it you might have to call him to get that that.

BTW.... I have a November of 1969 rebuilt 960 water pump if you can't find something dated closer to your application.
