Default NOS 994413: 1968-1974 RH (Passenger)Outside Mirror Accessory Package

Sold Pending Funds to member Cormac87!

I bought this a few weeks ago from a CF Member for the passenger side of my 1976 but, evidentially the earlier dealer accessory mirrors were a bit narrower than the post 74 mirrors! It is a beautiful NOS mirror. Corvette Forum member Glenn Brown (gbvette62) informed me that it will work for 1968 - 1974 Corvettes!

Per the original ad on the Corvette Forum C3 thread, the info is as below:

For sale is a NOS #994413; RIGHT hand outside mirror package for a 1973 - 1974 Corvette (coupe or convertible). It was sold as a dealer accessory item, and was a dealer installed option, as the 1973 and 1974 Corvettes did not come standard (or optional) from the factory with a right hand, outside rear view mirror. It will fit later years also, but was sold for the 1973-74 models(Corvette Forum member Glenn Brown (gbvette62) informed me that it will work for 1968 - 1974 Corvettes!).

The box kit consists of:
Right hand outside rear view mirror #334780. It is date coded 10-DMI-3. It is flawless. (The piece of styrofoam shown in the picture against the glass came on the mirror, held by a rubber band. It is not glued to the glass).
Instruction sheet #334769.
Template (no part number)
Hardware package envelope consisting of two screws, one bracket, one gasket, two nut assemblies, and a special screw.

I bought this package at a Chevrolet dealership in about 1975-1976 , intending to install it on my 1973 Corvette coupe. I never installed it, and it was stored inside my non-smoking home for years.

I’m still asking the $100.00 shipped that I paid for it! I will ship it via USPS Priority Mail to any of the 50 states. I will ship the next USPS business day after funds are received. USPS Money Order ONLY ACCEPTED AS PAYMENT! The first Unconditional “Ill take it” followed by a PM takes it.

What you see is what you get, ask questions before you offer to buy. See photos below!

FYI, the mirror is roughly between 5 to 5 1/4 inches wide.

I'll be honest, normally I don't respond to posts that are posted in bold type, because I find them hard to read, and I just can't be bothered trying to read them (yes I'm old and cranky ). For that reason, I didn't read much of your post either, but I'll try to help you with a little extra information anyway.

That mirror is not just for 73-74 Corvettes, but is actually a correct GM dealer accessory right hand mirror for 68-74 Corvettes. The 68-74 mirrors are approximately 5" wide, while the 75-79 mirrors are about 7" wide. The mirror bases are the same for both mirrors, just the mirror heads were different. GM went to the wider mirror in an effort to improve visibility over and around the rear fender humps.

$100 is a fair price for an NOS GM mirror. You might want to see if a moderator would update the years in your title, to improve the chances of finding a buyer. Good luck with the sale!

Glen:

Thanks for the info. I'll try to get the title changed to reflect. I thought that it might cover those years but didn't want to make that guess when nothing turned up in my Google search.

As far as the bold, I do that because my eyes (older yet) like it but will go back and change it to normal type since it could be an issue for some.

Take care,

I have a right mirror I want to install on a 75. The problem is the base doesn't fit tight to the mirror. The drivers mirror has the same problem and has a little wiggle in it I can't seem to correct. Is appears the "special screw" fits into a bore in the bracket and even though its tight there is just enough room for the mirror to wobble. Does anyone else have this problem and how could I correct the loose mirror.

What about going to the hardware store and pick up one or two small stainless steel washers to take up the slack?

Where would you put the washer? The base is tight. The problem is the way the "special screw" is designed. The bore in base and the outside diameter of the special screw is where the looseness originates.

Bob1224:

Not sure where you would put the washers but just up the "special screw" from the threads would be logical. You would have to have some mighty thin washers and I'm not sure you could find some. Is it an original GM mirror or and aftermarket? I put an aftermarket from Eckler's on my '76 Vette and after a while it became loose. I took the mirror off and tightened the screws up where it goes into the rubber inserts into the door to mount it. I just snugged them up but didn't torque them down real hard. It seem to make the mirror a little more steady mounted and took out the slop. Also, on one of the well known parts sellers, they sell all of the mounting hardware which may be something you might try.

Good luck,

They are after market mirrors from Ecklers also. Probably from China. I've tried to fill in the bore in the base with JB Weld and refit the special screw. It looked like it was going to work but over time the JB Weld loosened up and I'm back to the wobbly mirror even though the base is tight. Thinking of grinding the threads down so the special screw will fit deeper into the base bore and maybe use some Locktite on the barrel end of the special screw. I think that's what you meant by "up the special screw".The only thing that's stopping me is I may want to take it off someday. Properly cured Locktite can be difficult to work with. If someone has a better idea I'd sure like to hear it.

Did you try tightening up the screws that go into the inserts that go into the door...... the rubber inserts? That is what helped mine which is an Echlers on the passenger side........ when it started getting wobbly. Don’t to tighten them down to tight though..... just snug them.

The drivers door has a metal plate behind it for the base mounting screws. Those were tight. I shortened the special screw.050 and cut .050 from the tapered part of the screw and threaded it all the way up to what's left of the taper. The barrel part of the screw now has a better purchase of the bore in the mounting bracket. Then I put Loctite on the barrel area. Seems tight right now. I also installed the right side mirror today and cut the special screw the same way. It came out tight enough even with the rubber nutserts. I didn't have to use Loctite on it. This is a car I started restoring two years ago. Its been done for a while but the owner wanted a right mirror added to it which prompted me to address the loose mirror on the drivers door. During the resto many of the replacement parts were from China. Some of the stuff has poor fitment. When I rebuilt the doors the window sill felts were just horrible. Thanks for the input. Shortening the screw did the trick.

I'm glad you got them both snugged up.
