Default Insurance

Hello,
I think that we have found a C3 to buy and now comes the question of insurance. I have a few questions;

How old does a car have to be to qualify for classic insurance?
Does anyone know of good insurance companies that like corvette owners, preferably ones in california?
I am 31 have 14 years driving experience and one very small claim (50.50) a couple of years ago. What sort of amount should I expect to pay?

Thanks in advance!

If this is not going to be a daily driver check out Hagertys. My Insurance on the 80 runs $186 a year for full coverage. If you plan on driving it daily check with your regular carrier.

Hagerty is among the best. You must have more cars than licensed drivers in you household.

I have heard Hagerty's is good. I use Grundy, myself. If I recall, my '72 cost $190+ per year for approx. $25k agreed value. The important thing to look for are companies that offer "agreed value" policies. I.e. in the instance of a total loss, the insurance co. will pay out that value for which you had agreed upon at the time of taking out the policy, not a value they determine at the time of loss to be the then market value (which may or may not cover the actual value of the car). In addition, my Grundy policy has no limitations on mileage, nor how/where I drive the car.

I just did my '69 through my local State Farm. It was $129 with $20,000 agreed value and like 3500 miles per year. Not too bad and they are local.

It certainly sounds like they do have limitations on "how/where your drive the car". Call them up and tell them you drive it to work once or twice a week and let us know their reaction.

From Grundy's "Coverage Benifits":
Is Collector's Insurance Right For you?

Grundy Worldwide's underwriters can insure almost any collector vehicle you own regardless of year or model. Collector vehicles must be used for show, hobby, and pleasure purposes only. They should be owned in addition to vehicles used for daily transportation for all operators in your household, and can be in excellent original or restored condition.

No Mileage Limitations

This policy authorizes unlimited hobby use of your collector vehicle in collector activities, exhibits and parades. While participating in these events, owners are free to enjoy their collector vehicle without monitoring the odometer.
