Hi: Don't know about all the years being interchangable, but I do know that there's a difference between the roadster doors & the coupe doors on the eariler model year C3's

according to my interchange book

1979 & 1980 driver door part #14011827 passenger #14011828 were used in these year vettes,
note(s) interchange with striker on 1979 models, except when swapping to older models; salvage yard dealers say 1981 & 1982 will fit.

1981 & 1982 driver door part # 14018939 passenger #14018940

It's my understanding that the '80-'82 fiberglass is thinner, including the door skins, but that's the only difference. I don't know how much thinner.

I don't know which years interchange exactly, but I know now that
someone put 79-up doors on my 75 coupe.
I never would have known, but I went to change the lock
cylinders.
they are different for later C3s. So, maybe the latching
mechanism is, too.
Also, the window crank was in a different location.
Up til then, I wondered why the door panel had an "extra" hole.

I would say yo uhave no troubles putting a 69-up door on.
Just remember that the door panels and hardware may not
fit perfectly.
IMO - upgrade to the early style door panels.

you can rule out 68 doors, as the doors (skin) are 68 only...unless you want to install the 68 only lock and door handle mechanism

All coupe doors physically interchange-however: 68 is by itself due to the lock/pushbutton being together. 69-77 are 1 style door panel and really 69-72 have no internal crash bar, while 73-77 do, but they interchange redily. Then 78-82 are another style door panel. It is not easy to make early doors work on a late car unless you use corresponding door panels. Verts all interchange, but 68 is by itself, and the 73-75 has the crash bar.

ok, thanks guys. new question:

I'm asking becuase i have a good deal on this 69 door,

Regardless, my 80 door panel has got to go on this new door. my newest consideration is, the car has power windows, this eliminated the window crank hole from the door panel. the next problem is will the lock and door handle (inside of the car) from the 69 door work with my 80 door panel?

worst case scenario, i take this 1969 door, line up my 1980 door on the operating table next to it. cut out the entire interior metal skin from the 80, and mig it into the 69 door. now all my door panel parts are the same, everything lines up, change over the metal rod linkages, and budda bing budda boom- bobs my uncle.

anyone ever pull this off?

Exactly what shape is your 80 door in, what's still good? Re-skining may be alot easier if your 80 structure is still good. Otherwise I'd use the 69 and transplant only the parts really needed. But note: door mechanisms are a PITA to get at.

Info that doesn't matter: The window glass on 81-82 (not sure about 80) is thiner than the earlier years.

well my door has wads of putty at the bottom, a dry wall screw holding it together, and what looks like 3/4" of built up putty at the bottom of the door to build it up to match the fenders. any door is better than this door. the 69 door has no glass anyways, so that will be taken from the 80 door.

going to look at this 69 door today.

Ebay has several door nobody bidding can probably get the 80 door for around 100 $ plus shipping , then just transfer your hardware. I think you might have another problem if your door is "loaded up" with putty. The car could have been hit and the nose was not repaired or replaced properly and they built up the door to match. I hope not.

Funny you ask, becuase the car HAS been "hit and the nose was not repaired or replaced properly and they built up the door to match." The whole drivers side fender is 3/4" out of place. I never got too far inspecting it... will have another look this weekend. it will be a big job.

oh yea, and i bought the 69 drivers door last night for $40... Canadian which is like $4 to you guys.... and anyways, the guy was also selling a 79 (passenger) door... so i compared the 2 doors, the skins obvisouly appear identical, but the inside, the only real difference i noticed was where the door handle hole is located and the door lock hole... I think it will be reasonable to get it to work.

I used to do a lot of Vette body work and have seen this problem many times, repairs done by Bubba. I now limit my time to working on just my own and friends. I am retiring from my day job the end of April so I hope I will have time to finish my 80 body off.

You’d think that the OP would’ve found some doors during the last 14 years.

Hopefully he’s taken care of it over the 14 years since he posted.
