I just bought my 74 conv and along with the car came a new pair of rear shocks, new "spring cushion bushings" and new "strut rod bushings". The previious owner had already installed new front shocks and bushings. My questions is this: I'm not very "mechanically inclined", I can change tires and oil and other basic stuff. I've changed shocks on my pick up. Is it a big (difficult) job to change shocks and the bushings on the corvette? Will it need to be realigned after they're installed?
It's not a difficult job but it is sometimes very difficult getting the rear lower shock mounts out of the trailing arms, Liquid Wrench and heat will help, but shock installation is pretty simple.
The rear strut bushings will need driven out, sometimes stuborn, the old rubber sticks to the inside of the strut but they will come out with a nice size hammer or air chisel and or torch.
You will need to realign after installing the strut bushings. The inboard bolt has a camber adjuster built into the bolt, mark this before you remove it and it will get you close when you put the new bushings in.
I'd suggest replacing the camber adjuster bolts while in there. They are only like $10 and makes alignment easy.
Good luck

Thanks for posting that article. It was very good with the photos that showed how to replace the rear leaf spring and bushings.
To Al MC. From looking at the article you should see that this looks like a fairly simple job for you to do. I know you are not going to replace your leaf spring, but the photos show you what is around the general area, and how to get to some of the bushings.
