I recently had some paint work done, and it appears to me the mirrors on the doors were taken off and put back on, but they are not quite in the right position. I assume the mirrors are bolted on from the inside? I took the inside door panel off, but still can't figure out how to get at the mirror mount. I feel like a dope that this should be simple, but I can't figure how to get at this without tearing the whole door apart, which really shouldn't be necessary. I'd take it back to the shop but its a couple hour drive, and I thought this would be simple.
Any great minds with experience on this? Thanks for any help!
You gotta be kidding me...that is what happened to me, except I bought the car that way. The sport mirror gasket has to be rotated around. Go back to the painter now!!! It is very hard to do. I did one side this past weekend, you don't want to know what I went through...
The sport mirrors bolt on from the inside. Raise the window. Remove the interior door panel. Follow the mirror adjustment cable to the hole in the door skin where it passes through to the mirror. On each side of the hole you should find a mounting stud.
Get a 7/16 deep offset box wrench and a dictionary of curse words. Sockets won't work so cuss now. Take off the door panel and loosen the window bolts to slide the glass as far back as it will go. If you take the glass out it's a lot easier but not necessary. Use bad language here. If your mirrors just need to be repositioned just loosen the 2 nuts on each one and slide them. The nuts on the aft bolts are a pain to turn so take them off first and then use more bad words. After you drop the nut down into the door grab a flashlight, mirror and mechnical fingers to get them out. Cuss again now. When you put them back on make sure the mirror gaskets are on right then put the front nuts on first. After you get it all back together use more words to chevy who made the same style mirrors on camaros but with a screw on the outside. Plan on an hour unless you get in trouble for the new words.

Thanks Bill, and everyone else! I'm sure I will follow your suggestions exactly as you have described. I have a good command of the French language and it sounds like it will be needed. It appears I need to take the mirrors off to flip the gaskets. I tried a baby socket and bending a wrench, the aft ones are a going to be a pain in the aft. I'm going to need the deep offset wrench I think. I'm concerned if I move the glass I'm going to really have a problem getting it lined up right again (?) I haven't looked at that close yet.
My gaskets between mirrors and door were upside down, causing the mirror to be so close to the window it almost touched, I had my mechanic turn them around. They look right now. I looked at it and decided I'd rather pay the $50 bucks he wanted to do the job.
