Default SBC Main Girdle

Hi, I'm new here. I tried to post this morning, but something must have gone wrong.

I have a 400 sbc 5.7 rods, AFR 190cc, etc..with a 6-71 blower. I had this motor in my 75 K1500 with a 144 blower. It made 502HP 551TRQ. 14.02 at 100mph. Not bad with 4"lift and 35"tires and 5300lbs. Anyway, I'm worried about the mains holding together. Does anyone know who makes or where to get a Main Stud Girdle to help hold the bottom end together? I'm shooting for 625+ HP shifts at approx. 6800rpms.

Thanks

You're thinking smallblock Ford. Main girdles aren't made for the smallblock Chevy since it's easy to convert a two-bolt block to four-bolt and stud the mains. That process will easily survive your intentions.

That's what I thought. I did see them for the fords, and LS1's. Hmm? I have ARP bolts right now. I'm tearing it down to fix a bad cylinder. I'll plan on align boring and studding it. My engine builder said he used to build a lot of 700 hp 400's. He said the rpms won't be a problem it's the torque that the blower will make that will rip it apart.

I'm torn between the two motor options. I could just run the 144 blower with a cowl hood. I love the looks of the 6-71. It's been years and I loved the attention I got.

Thanks for the input.

I've always had 4 bolt blocks. I use ARP main studs and Milodon main caps in my last couple of motors. I also had a block converted to splayed caps.

The problem with things like splayed caps is you start getting so much invested in an inferior block that your smarter to just bight the bullet and spend $2000 on a Dart or Motown block and they really have something.

I have a 427 ci Motown with 350 size mains. It's they best block and crank setup out there. The block and caps are massive compared to stock and 441-454 ci are easy to make
