Default 1974 wiper arms hit hood

Although I haven't posted to the forum, I have been reading it and used the info to help me buy a '74 coupe recently. I tried a search on this, but didn't see what I need.

Does anyone have a picture of the wiper arms on a '74. I tried my wipers yesterday, and the passenger side hits the bottom of the hood, preventing the arm from coming out. I am trying to find out if the arm is just bent, or if I have the wrong arm on it. A previous owner looks to have put a newer-than-74 windshield on the car, so I am not sure if other parts have been changed.

Thanks for the help

The arms are probably fine but some wiper blades cause this problem. They have too high a profile and push the arms outward. Take one of the blades to an auto parts store and make comparisons between brands.

It's probably not the arms but the blades. Most replacement wiper blades are too tall to clear the hood. If you still have the originals you can get just the rubber refills.....if not you may need to get the correct blades from one of the catalogs. I went through this on my 74. I couldn't find anything at the local auto parts that would clear the hood and ended up just putting new refills into the original blades.

Great, thanks for the help....as I was looking at it again this morning, I thought maybe the blade was higher than it should be.
I'll get lower blades...

thanks again

This is a common problem on all 73 to 74's. Corvette Central used to carry the correct wiper blade--which will solve/correct the problem--under part no. 653032.

I had the same problem that you are having with my 74 when I tried to change blades. It seemed that most of them were just a little too tall. I did actually locate a repalcemnt set thought that did fit. I got them at Pepbpys. I beleive the name brand is ExactFit or somehting similar to that.
