Default C3 - Chambered exhaust help!

I got the chambered exhaust mounted and installed. It sounds so SWEET!

Wow, I love it. But now for the issue I have with it. I can't figure out where and how to put the crossover. I normally would have installed it just behind the frame cross member, but the pipe is crimped there. I might be able to use a small diameter there, maybe.

Any ideas? What about not installing one? I know that the crossover is good for the system in terms of balance, horsepower and sound. Am I really losing much by not putting one in?

Thanks

How about further back toward the diff? The pipes are not dimpled back there. Thats where I was planning to add one for my system.

Default hmmm, maybe...

Hmm, I'll have to have a look again. I did not think one could fit in there, but I might have mis-judged. You're right the exhaust isn't crimped that far back.

i've read the closer to the engine the more effective... i plan on puttin mine in front of the crossmember. and the x-pipe is supposedly more efficient than the h-pipe

I agree, closer to the engine would be better. However with the chambered set-up there are issues.
We could put the h pipe in front of the tranny crossmember but then you'd have issues with the tranny pan.

I've had my chambered exhaust for over a year now with no cross-over and no issues. I installed it at the same time as an engine rebuild and carb swap. So, there was a pretty bad popping problem at first, but once I tuned the carb there was only the sweet rumble of Chevy power.

Default Closer to the engine!

I completely agree, an X-pipe is better than an H. And closer to the engine would be best. There's just not a good spot with this exhaust. I was hoping that someone had maybe used some smaller diameter tube and managed to fit it in just after the cross member.

Its good to see other Houston vette heads on the board too!

It's just down right difficult to install a crossover pipe or X-pipe close to the engine in these cars without having it hang real low. I ended up putting mine under the differential. Not the absolute best for power, but better than nothing.

This guy mentions crossover/h-pipe size. Evidently, these are always good for the system and never detrimental.

my crossover was installed at end of tubes from header behind crossmember.Plenty of room and chamber from there back. Been on since they were only 200 bucks for setup from MAD. Steve

rule of thumb for the crossover is to paint the exhaust pipe up near the tranny and put it in the center of the area where the paint burns off of the inside of the pipes. That's the most efficient place for the H-pipe, i.e. where it wil ldo what it's supposed to and balance flow.

Default Good rule of thumb!

Hey Mongoose... great rule of thumb. It makes good sense.

On my previous exhaust, I ran for a few weeks without a crossover. Then had an H-pipe put in just after the tranny crossmember. It worked, but to tell you the truth, I don't think I could REALLY tell the difference with the old "butt dyno".

With the chambered exhaust there is not a good place. Thanks for the feedback guys. AS Carla? said above I'll run for a while without and see what I think.
