1968 Shifter Plate Restore.....PART II
All finished See part 1 for prep and painting of the plate.
Red and white painted on the flags.
Red and white paint scraped off the chrome edges.
Finished cross flags.
I also did the heater control. Same way as the plate.
Finished and ready for a 68 console.
Good luck with yours! Show us some pictures. (before and after)

I hope mine will look as good as yours. If I could figure out how to post pictures I would post some. Now if someone could educate me on that? My son is standing over my shoulder and wanted me to use the angel.

You need to host them somewehere. Photobucket.com is the easiest to use. Once you upload a pic, you just left click the line of text next to your picture where it says "Img", then make a post here and right click and select "Paste".

Hi Tony, I'm going to be doing mine, did you completely strip the parts down? What did you use, if you did? What name brand paint did you use? Any help would be appreciated. Cheers!

Nice work, Tony.
If you ever need new cross flags emblems for '68 console plates (they are very easily broken, don't ask how I know) Pacific Corvette carries them. They are the only source that I am aware of, and from the conversations that I had with one of the owners, Pac-Vet are the ones that make them. I ordered two. One for my car and another for a spare plate that I have. The emblems were very nice quality. Now if I could just remember where I filed my two away at......

Hi Bryan,
The emblems have two hollow posts so I presume that you can spin rivet them into place as original. I was going to use adhesive since 1) I'm afraid to mess the emblem or my shift plate up, 2) you can't tell how the emblem is attached once it's in place in the console, 3) I've already assembled my console with the plate in place and am too lazy to remove it again .
With my fuel door emblem which is supposed to be "spun riveted" in place, the instructions say to take a 1/4" drill bit, install it in a drill press upside down so that the shank of the drill is actually the end facing down, and with the fuel door on the drill press table with the emblem in place, use the spinning shank of the drill bit to spin and mushroom down the pins....or use adhesive . That darn emblem cost me about $60 and I'm afraid to do much experimenting with it as far as trying my hand at "spin riveting". Adhesive is looking pretty good for that one too, at the moment.
