Default New 383 Versus old LT1

I was wondering if anyone had any input on the subject. I have the chance to have a 383 built new for me or buy a used LT1 and put some money into rebuilding it. Anyone have any input? The 383 would cost about $4000 while the LT1 before any rebuild would only cost about $1000.

If you have an opportunity to buy and old LT-1 for only $1000, assuming it isn't trashed,... buy it. Then put the new 383 in your car with the money you can make from a resale of the LT-1.

Or did you mean newer model (used) LT1??

If the LT1 has to be rebuilt go with the 383. I have an LT1 that I have modified but still has the LT1 shortblock. I have about 420 HP out of the LT1 wit ha bigger cam and AFR heads. I am looking to sometime put a 383 or 396 short block under the existing heads and cam for around 500+ HP. The lt1 is going to cost about the same to rebuild as building a 383. Always go for the cubic inches. The LT1 is a great motor and will rev quite good but so will a properly built 383

Yea, I have an awesome builder willing to give me a great deal on building the bottom end of the 383 but I just ran across this LT1 and was interested if I should change my mind before I pay anything.

No, that LT1 is trashed. I am not sure how much it would cost to rebuild...probably alot
