Default Replacing carpet on rear compartment lids

What's the trick to drilling out the plastic areas that bond the plastic carpet "surround" to the rest of the compartment lid? I drilled into a couple of them and it's not obvious to me how deep to drill, or what size bit to use.
Can someone shed some light on this for me?
Thanks!
Jeff

Use a 1/8" drill bit and drill it out. It's a real pain to recarpet these lids. After you remove the carpet check the new frames for size. I had to sand the edges on one lid.

Hey, thanks for the reply. I'll try the 1/8". I'm going to try to re-use the old frames, maybe it'll work out for me, maybe I'll have to order new ones. I've been waiting well over a month for some black seat backs...this parts crap is driving me nuts, and I'm almost finished with my car!

Dear Jeff,

When I redid mine it was a slow tedious process. You cannot reglue the frames once they are drilled out. I ordered new frames that came with small screws to hold them down tight over the carpet. Good luck.
