Default Check Your Gas Tank

Today I decided to change the oil in my rear end. I removed the spare tire carrier to make things easier. When I looked up above the remaining half of the tire carrier i found the gas tank all rusted out. Looks like its ready to start leaking at any minute. There was a ton of dirt and little stones up there. I wish I could of found it sooner. It might be worth a look.

Yes, I agree! I dropped my spare tire carrier to paint it, and noticed the smell right away. The felt on top of the forward tank support was all wet too. The tank itself looked good, but when I got it out, you could literally see the pinholes in it. Replacement wasn't nearly as hard as I thought it would be. Worth a check.

Does anyone have a photo of their Vette without their spare carrier? I'd like to see what it looks like before removing mine.

Here's a photo but it's not very clear. I can tell you this, if you delete the carrier it looks alot better if you clean/paint things up under there.

the tanks have rubber bladders I beleive, so that probably all that was keeping the gas in.

I took the body off of the 68' this week and found out that the tank was rusted out. I guess that's just another thing that'll have to be replaced.
