Default 73 Rear End Gear Ratio Reccomendation

My 73 is slower off the line than I want. I would like to pick up more performance by simply changing out the gears. Is this OK?

I have a 350, auto, 4 barral quadrajet with P235/60R15 tires.

Is there a max that I can go to?

I do mostly street driving, some highway but very rearely and don't really care about mpg.

Default Max. End Gear Ratio Reccomendation

Answered your previous topic on this.
Suggest get engine tuning right first, recurve dist., eliminate T.C.S., etc.
Then cam it up to increase overall power. Then see if you want more gear.

4.11 or 4.56 Posi. You really need a higher winding engine for these.

Another good way to increase launch capability with an automatic is to switch to a higher stall convertor. Your stock torque convertor might send you off the line at 1500rpm. You could consider swapping the convertor with a 2500stall. This way when you launch, your rpm's are higher and your motor is producing that much more power and torque right off the line. I switched to a TCI Breakaway convertor. It gives me 1000rpm more stall speed than stock. I come off the line between 2200 and 2500rpm now. This convertor swap alone took 7 tenths off of my 1/4mi ET.

Rear gears will help your ofline acceleration. The downside is they will also increase your highway cruise rpm. To get the best of both worlds you could consider switching from your current 3spd TH400 to a 4spd auto with overdrive like the 200R or 700R. Both the 200 and 700 have a lower 1st gear that will get you off the line quicker. They also have overdrive 4th to drop your R's on the highway for a nice cruise rpm speed.

Im switching from TH400/3.08 to Th200R4/3.90
