Its basically a stock zz4 with the exception of I added the HOTCAM a few
months after the motor was in the car. Other than that there is nothing. ;)

Jay M.. you should look into the ZZ502 crate motor....serious power in there

That's excellent! My stock L48 posted 203HP max at rear wheels...you have 100HP more than I do, and a much higher rpm range too. Looks like the ZZ4 was well worth the money.

Great numbers, I hope to catch up with you at one of the challenges. I ran my best ever a 12.9 at 108 the week before at the Corvette show. Your 12s are just a good launch and good air away. I have been trying for a long time myself. My 60 foot time was only 2.169 on that run which is not very good. I'll be trying again real soon. :D

Chris I'll see you at the next Challenge... Last weekend just got screwed up. I ended up down the shore with my daily driver (there was no way I could have made it home and then up to Englishtown by 3pm) although I was trying. I was kinda glad to hear you guys got rained out.

ohhhh and you'll get 12's long before I do!... 13.01... you suck! :D Gordon is right you are one night of good air away! :D

Soon - very soon --
ZZ4 motor (stock) with a 670 CFM Holley going in in beginning of October.
Waiting is killing me, but it still is up over 105 every day. To hot to be trying to swap the motor.

One of these nights I am going to go to the local strip (Firebird) and get a baseline run with this crappy a $ $ L-48. If it runs 16.5 and under I will be really surprised.
Goal will be anything with a 13 in front of it. Don't even care if it is a 13.99.

Looks like you got the power out of your ZZ4. I just installed a ZZ4 in my 71 and from a rolling start am just as fast if not a little quicker than my friends 98 SS Camaro with an LS1 in it. I haven't done any mods to my engine yet execpt for a MSD ingition system. What was involved with the HOT cam swap? I think that is waht I am going to do with the engine next. Did you install the 1.6 to 1 rockers? Now go have some fun with all the 5.0 Rustangs out ther and show them what real power is all about

Cris, really great numbers! I have a few questions? Do you have the Corvette heads? What are other goodies? I had my 355 dynoed today. I am still in shock. 241 hp & 295 torque. I know you have a better cam. I am using 23 fast burn heads which are supposed to be a 30 hp bolt on over the standard ZZ4 heads. Re: 430 hp ZZ4. You are the man with the answers, Pleaseeee help me!
Thanks, Bud Snyder

theandies, not much to do with the install. Pull of the carb, manifold, valve covers, pull out the old rockers, springs, and lifters. Since they are all out, go for the 1.6 rockers which i did also. Actually, if you dont have to, dont change the springs since they are the same as the ZZ4 i believe. And you should have to take them out to change the cam, but go for the 1.6:! rockers. Then pull off the water pump, alt, steering pump, etc., and timing chain, right there will be the part that hold the cam in with 2 screws, pop that off, and pull out the old one. Take the new cam, and on the end that goes on the timing chain, you have to knock in the "cam shaft dowel pin" to match the old cam. No problem at all, hit it with a hammer with a piece of wood in between. Pop that cam back in, CAREFULLY! and reinstall. Great mod, and wouls suggest it w/o a doubt!!

vettepowA, i estimated 400HP at the crank with the stock zz4 being 355, and the HOTCAM gives it 395, and figured about another 5 cause of 750 carb, and timing advance, etc. Which seems like to much of a loss to what Rockn-Roll said, but i have heard the same thing he said many times.

Bud, explain to me exactly what you have, cause i cant really tell what you have from what you said....

Chris

bud, sounds like everything there you have is better than my stuff with the excpetion of the carb and cam...whats your compression ratio... mine is 10:1
Sounds like you might be around 9 or 9.5....thatll definitely make a big difference..
Chris
