What's up with Muskegon Brakes?
I was in an urgent need for new brake calipers for my '81.
Last week, I tried to place an order online but their website did not add any item to the shopping cart.
So , no problem I thought and called their 800 number. Nobody picked up. Then I called their direct line , but nobody answered the phone either.
Today I tried to go to their website but I got an error message that the server refused the connection.
What's up? Are they out of business?
Any information ?
You probably read my previous post ( brake bleeding nightmare) where all the bleeders snapped off.
As suggested by some members, I tried the easy-out tool and guess what.... even the tool snapped off :mad
Now I'm really pissed and in total desperation I just placed an order with Mid America for 4 new brake calipers, pads, brake hoses and a new master cylinder.
Hope this is going to solve my brake problems once and for all. :U
Thanks for listening.
Roger

rhoven;
One thing I'd encourage you to do to avoid disappointment with your brake project is to talk with Mike at Zero Tolerance. If you're using calipers with the factory-type seals, you're likely to continue to have problems with your brakes pumping air if the rotors have appreciable runout, especially the rear rotors. As I'm sure you know by now, air pumping gives you a soft pedal and puts moisture in the system. The Zero Tolerance pistons and o-ring seals eliminate the problem, once and for all, without having to send your rear spindles and rotors out to have the runout corrected.

Order a complete set of stainless steel bleeders from Vette Brakes and install them in whatever calipers you decide to get. :yesnod:

Since you are going all out, may I suggest that you replace any hard lines that are readily accesible as well. It sounds like you have ordered the flexible hoses along with everything else. If you have not already ordered them, you should replace the trailing arm hard lines and the crossover line that runs across the rear crossmember. This way you are completely done replacing all brake parts in the rear of the car. These additional lines are cheap; maybe $40 for all 3. Mid-America may not sell the individual crossover line though - may have to order from Zip. Not sure of the trailing arm lines. Good Luck. :chevy

Just a technical sidenote on the Zero Tolerance setup...
Yes, they do work... but no, they do not cure rotor runout for good. Rotors with runout also "pulse" when you apply the brake. Besides being annoying, this pulsing causes the pistons to pound on the caliper bores, eventually ruining (eggshaping) the pistons and the caliper bores. I wouldn't be surpised if Zero Tolerance changes their warranty to exclude pistons and calipers which are ruined due to rotor runout. If your rotors have runout, they should be replaced (my favorite tact) or turned using the proper methodology.

Re: What's up with Muskegon Brakes? (Tom454)
Tom454 is right. I rebuilt all my calipers last year using stock pistons and seals. Had the rotors rivited and then turned as a unit. Blead them once and the brakes are hard as a rock.
