Default crossmember removal

It seems like there are 4-5 of us simultaneously redoing our rearends. I followed some threads from last year and read how they removed the crossmember to lower the differential. Thanks to Frankenvette and Ken74conv for their advice on using the gear puller to remove the cross member vs the crowbar.

Very nice procedure! It took ten minutes for me to read directions on how to set up a gear puller, and then 30 seconds to pop off the crossmember. Even better, I went to Advance auto parts and they "Loan" (not rent-but loan) gear pullers. The only down side was now I don't have an excuse to go buy that "Gotta have/much needed" gear puller.

I've got my entire rear end out, springs, differential, exhaust, cross member. All I've got left is to remove the camber rods from the spindle (ouch) and replace the bushings. Still not sure if I'll tackle the trailing arms.

Seems like it was only yesterday that I was worried about becoming the "4th worthless thing". I'd show pics but I don't know how to post them. OK, maybe I really am the "4th worthless thing"

Thanks to all for your great advice

Swede

If you'd like to post some pics, in the composition section where you write your post, scroll down 'till you see a button that says manage attachment and click. A new window will open allowing you to select a picture file from your computer. Click a browse button and navigate to the desired picture file on your computer and select it (this file has a size limit). Then click the upload button and if it's not too big you'll see it listed above the manage attachments button. Then click the submit reply and "wah la".

By the way, I live just north of you in Pelham.

thanks for the info on posting pics. Evidently my profile states that I'm not allowed to post attachments; so I don't have the "manage attachments" menu. Not sure what the secret handshake is. BTW: nice ride

I think you have to be a supporting member (i.e. send money) before you can post pictures. BTW thanks.

I think any registered member can post pictures. You just need to upload them first. Select Other dropdown, then member Galleries. Near the top right you will see a link for uploading pictures. After you upload them in the correct category, you can then put a link to them in your post.

Count me in as one of those. I have the TA's out, diff/crossmember out (used a 2 jaw puller to pull it down), driveshaft.......actually, everything is out. TA's have been blasted and are getting painted tonight. THe Big Brown Truck is delivering some goodies today too, so I can finish up the job. Once the rear is done, its on to the front. The never stops.
