Need a new fan clutch
With my engine at operating temperature (~200), my fan clutch doesn't seem to have any resistance at all. I can spin the fan all day. Sound like it's defective?
Next question: Zip has two replacement clutches, one for $160, and one for $50. What's the difference?

Very likely the $160 fan clutch is the GM #3916141 replacement fan clutch. This unit is a very high quality, Eaton-manufactured clutch which is very similar in configuration to the unit used originally on your car. In fact, it's the exact same part number as the original, although the configuration has changed slightly over the years. This unit is a thermal-type clutch.
The $50 unit is likely an aftermarket, "el cheapo" unit which is manufactured by "Brand X". These are often non-thermal type units and will NOT perform as well as original type thermal units. The configuration of this unit will also be significantly different than the original used on your car.
So, armed with this information, the choice is yours.

I bought a heavy duty fan clutch for my vette about a year ago from Advance auto parts......Cost was 60 bucks...they had a light duty one for 28 bucks...I would go to ur local parts store for that particular part.....350 chevy clutch fans are everywhere :smash: :yesnod:

I had heard the same thing from other forum members about avoiding the no-name clutches. I found the correct GM thermal clutch from an on-line parts store for ~$80. Much less than all the Corvette catalogs wanted.

If I had a GM part number (which you now have) I would go to GMpartsdirect.com and plug the # in there to get the GM list price and wholesale price (of course Joe Lucia gives this to you also! ) and their price but beware of the very high shipping/handling fees. Then I would check with The Last Detail. They have pretty good prices on AC Delco / GM parts. I might check my local Chevy dealer also, but they typically charge me their "special" retail rates, which is GM suggested retail * 175% !! :(
Just thought I would go check.... They have a newlook website!!

(Their price is $102.96 + $18.53 = $121.49. not too bad!
