Tony;
Antonick sez in his Black Book that, yes, Bright Blue first appeared on the option list in 1969. Why owners of earlier "original" cars would install that color is anybody's guess. Some catalogs are better sources of information than others.

Two blues were available in '68; medium blue and dark blue. I have the dark blue (code 411) in my car. 411 is very close to the dark blue leather in my '80. '68 medium blue is lighter and closer to a flag blue color. I've seen a '68 with the bight blue interior and it's a good looking color.

Bright Blue in 1968????
Tony,
I used to own a 1968 coupe (February 1968 build date) that was International blue (978) with an original medium blue vinyl interior (414). It was most definitely the same shade of "bright" blue in the pictures Dave provided of his car. Dave's interior looks like it actually might be 415... Sure looks like leather in the photos.
If I ever figure out how to use my scanner correctly, I'll post some photos of the interior on my old '68 coupe (somewhere down in Mississippi last I heard)...
Regards,
Stan Falenski

Tony, you are correct, 63Banshee's interior does look very close to the same shade as "Bright Blue" in 69-70.
However, Bright Blue is like a metallic color and that may be the difference. I don't think there were any Bright Blue interiors in 68, because that's what all the books say, and 63Banshee's interior has the correct 68 only door panels. If there had been some, that fact would have surfaced before now.
After the threads on Silverstone Silver and Cortez Silver (both are 986, but they are different colors), I guess I am convinced that you can't go by the number specification GM used on exteriors and interiors. On later cars, the 411 code was darker blues, but in 70 411 was Bright Blue.

My trim code is 414. I know the pictures make it look a bit like 415. Looking at the beautiful interior pic of 69er’s 411 trim I can safely say that 414 is NOT quite as “brilliant” or “metallic” as 411. It’s so hard to tell the difference from online pics. Side by side I’m sure it is easy to tell them apart. Hope this helps... at least a little.

Bright Blue in 1968????
Tony,
My '68 coupe was an L-71 car with an M-21 transmission and a 3.55 to rear axle. Outside of the other mandatory options (transistor ignition and positraction) the only other options that I remember were red stripe tires, power brakes, AM/FM radio, and tinted glass. As I mentioned, I was told that the car had been sold in Mississippi sometime around 1995-96... That's the last I ever heard about it anyway.
I sold the car (along with a '70½ Trans Am) shortly after these photos were taken to buy a new (1991) Corvette... One of my less intelligent decisions. The original red stripe tires were removed to keep them from flat spotting while the car was in storage... I really wish that I had taken a couple of photos with them installed.
The 414 code interior in this car is original and the color is certainly a lot brighter than the "medium blue" moniker would lead you to believe. Still, I think that Chuck and DJ are on the right track; it is nowhere near as bright as the 411 code interior in 69er's car.
