Decisions, Decisions, Whadda ya think?
What is the big deal, if you will, about the first RPO LT-1's? What makes that package so important/desirable? The reason for this question is, I have an opportunity to purchase a 72 LT1 or a 72 BB (454/270). Both are under $10K and both have different options. I still have alot of investigating to do so this is a very up front question.
In advance, Thanks for all the feed back

Hi performance aspect makes it desireable. LT-1 was supposed to give you near-bigblock power (hence the hood! ) while maintaining smallblock nimble handling. Apparently it worked. The relative rarity of the option adds to its value as a collector car today. Check the production numbers in the black book. More bigblocks than LT-1. I was looking for one but couldnt afford it, so I ended up with my 68 bigblock. MJ

That sounds pretty cheap for either. How original and in what condition?

ooo, this is one of lifes most difficult desicions (either way, you can't lose). the LT-1 is 'rare', only a few thousand made, only availible 70-72. made a solid 250 net hp and was competative with the LS5 in acceleration, but becasue is was lighter up front, it handled much better. the 454 is just simply huge. they sound nasty and have tons of torque. everone should drive a bigblock at least once. to make the choice, you need more details on the specifics of each car, such as milage, #'s, and condidtion. if you have any questions about the 454, just ask me. together we can make the choice. :D

Heres my opinion. If you wanna stay stock or close to, go with the LT1. If you wanna modify. Go Big Block. Nothing like cubic inches. The whole setupis already there.

The information to this point on the LT-1 is as follows original matching #'s car, m21 4spd, 3.70 posi rear, full pwr, leather interior trim pkg, original tank stickers and dealer sheet. No rust, needs a paint job,110+ miles. Original alum intake & air cleaner, TI box, distributor, exhaust manifold, valve covers and ignition shielding. Needs brakes, exhaust, tires. Thats what I have on this one for now. Waiting for info on the BB.
