Gas smell in my 80 L-82
Hi All,
While I was driving around last night in the perfect weather, I would smell gas fumes at the lights. I thought it was my rear y pipe that I just fixed a hole in recently so I did not think anything of it. When I got home I ran my hand near the pipes while the car was running and neither heard or felt any leaks. I opened the hood and smelled gas. The part I don't get is it smelled the most near the master cylinder and not inside the air cleaner housing. What do I have?

I just had a similar problem with my 80. It smelled like gasoline everywhere around the car, under the hood, etc. It turned out to be a dry rotted return hose on the top of the gas tank, it was actually spewing gasoline when the car was running. You may have a different problem, but, it wouldn't hurt to check the hoses back there.

If I'm not mistaking, isn't the charcoal canister below the vacuum booster? Maybe that has a bad line or needs to be replaced. Just a thought. Good luck.

Thanks guys for the help. I will start with the canister and go from there. Hopefully it’s not a sticky float in the carb.
